Chapter 63 Clarification
Chapter 63 Clarification
Without keeping Zhang Zhi hanging, Wang Manni told him directly at the end of the blind date that it wasn't a good match!
Because he hadn't invested much, Zhang Zhi didn't have any particularly strong emotions. He only felt a little disappointed; he had high hopes for this pretty girl, but he hadn't expected it to end so soon.
After a clean and efficient end to the blind date, Wang Manni went home and reported the result to her parents. The two elders were very disappointed; Zhang Zhi was a well-known bachelor in the surrounding area, pursued by many!
However, since Nini doesn't like it, her parents can't just force her to drink if she doesn't want to.
Because Wang Manni had taken leave to go home, and the blind date was over, her parents had no reason to make her stay any longer, so they sent her away. This departure would mean she wouldn't be home for several months, and although the two were used to it, they were still somewhat reluctant to part.
Back in Shanghai, Wang Manni worked for a few days. During her day off, she went to visit Chen Yu and Wang Wenwen at their home. Although they had just been to the small town hospital, it was only right to check on them again after returning to Shanghai.
This wasn't Wang Manni's first time visiting the villa area, but she was always drawn to its luxury every time she came.
Wang Wenwen and Zhong Xiaoqin welcomed Wang Manni and invited her to stay for dinner.
"Come on, Manni, try this dish. It tastes similar to the food where you're from!" Wang Wenwen was now much more enthusiastic towards Wang Manni than before, when they were just casual acquaintances.
Wang Manni smiled and said, "Oh, okay, thank you. Was this made especially for me? Actually, I could tell back in our hometown that you all don't really like our local cuisine!"
Zhong Xiaoqin took a bite and said, "I think it's alright."
"It's just my husband and me who aren't used to the food. It's not just this dish; other cuisines and snacks have to be modified to survive in our area."
"I've always had a question: why did you two choose to both follow Professor Chen?" Wang Manni had been holding back for a long time, and finally she could ask. "I can tell you're not the kind of people who like money. Can love be shared too?"
Zhong Xiaoqin and Wang Wenwen exchanged a glance, and their faces visibly flushed red.
Seeing that the two were a little hesitant, Wang Manni became anxious, "There are only the three of us here, is there anything you can't say?"
"It's not that I can't talk about it, but this matter is mainly Wenwen's fault; she brought it up herself."
Wang Wenwen didn't shirk responsibility either, saying, "It was I who bewitched Xiaoqin. When I first met Xiaoqin, I didn't expect things to turn out this way. I just wanted to take Xiaoyu away from Xiaoqin. But after spending more time with Xiaoqin, I gradually fell in love with her too!"
Xiaoyu has such great taste! Xiaoqin is a wonderful girl, especially in the first two years after graduation. She was like a little kid. And Xiaoyu and Xiaoqin were almost a couple back then. If I didn't do something, I might never have gotten Xiaoyu in my life!
Zhong Xiaoqin was displeased. "Oh, okay, Wenwen. Back then, I thought you were a good person and I was always sticking to you. I never expected you to have been harboring evil intentions from the very beginning!"
Wang Manni felt upset because the story lacked details. "How did they get together later? What's the important part?"
Wang Wenwen recounted the whole story of the two of them getting drunk and injured to Wang Manni. "At the time, Xiaoqin was probably clueless about relationships and marriage. She only got together with me because of my persuasion. But if it weren't for her husband being different from others... that's roughly how it happened." Realizing she had gone too far, Wang Wenwen suddenly stopped and made a strange summary.
Although Wang Manni roughly understood what had happened between the two, without experiencing it firsthand, it was difficult for her to empathize with the characters. How could anyone be so foolish as to believe everything someone else says? Oh, Zhong Xiaoqin is indeed that kind of person, then it's alright! But what Wang Wenwen had hesitated to say earlier piqued her curiosity again, "You just said 'different from ordinary people,' I didn't understand, what do you mean by 'different from ordinary people'?"
Zhong Xiaoqin was closer to Wang Manni, and whispered something in Wang Manni's ear.
"Ah!? So that's how it is! No wonder President Gu told me that Professor Chen is different from others!" Wang Manni thought to herself, so this is the main reason why the three of them have a harmonious relationship! Therefore, Chen Yu is destined not to have only one wife, unless he's promiscuous. Wang Manni thinks Chen Yu should have been born in Japan!
Of course, Wang Manni also knew that their choices were partly due to Chen Yu's wealth; Chen Yu's money made life simpler. Wang Manni came from an ordinary family in a small town, and she knew more about the mundane details of daily life than anyone else. She had seen countless stories of poverty and hardship for couples.
Finally free of the doubts that had been troubling her, Wang Manni felt a sense of clarity and understanding!
Later, Wang Manni opened up and asked Wang Wenwen and Zhong Xiaoqin how they handled conflicts and problems in their lives as a trio. Did Chen Yu show favoritism? Did the two women never have conflicts?
The final conclusion was that both of them were easily satisfied. Wang Wenwen remembered what she had said before: as long as she could be by Chen Yu's side, she would do anything. Zhong Xiaoqin, on the other hand, was just an unambitious, lazy, homebody who enjoyed killing time and didn't care much about the outside world. When she occasionally went shopping, she only invited a few close friends. This was why, even at thirty, Zhong Xiaoqin had very few friends; she was too much of a homebody. Therefore, Wang Wenwen and Zhong Xiaoqin were not just two wives, but also two friends and best confidantes with complementary personalities.
…………
Lin Youyou didn't want to wait any longer, so she secretly applied for a job as a receptionist at the Junyue Mansion. When Xu Huanshan and Gu Jia returned from their day out and saw Lin Youyou at the front desk, Xu Huanshan was so shocked he almost couldn't move.
Gu Jia had been staying there for so long that she knew everyone at the front desk, so she was curious when a new face suddenly appeared. "I've never seen you before. Are you new here?"
"Hello, ma'am, my name is Lin Youyou, and today is my first day at work!" Lin Youyou's performance was quite professional, just like a property management receptionist.
Xu Huanshan slowly calmed down. Luckily, Gu Jia wasn't blind; otherwise, she could have easily guessed something from Xu Huanshan's sallow complexion.
"Oh, okay, okay, could you check if there are any packages in 1201?" Gu Jia didn't know Lin Youyou and just thought she was an ordinary property management employee.
"You live in 1201, right?" Lin Youyou looked at Gu Jia meaningfully after learning Xu Huanshan's apartment number.
Gu Jia felt uneasy under his gaze. "Is there a package coming in?"
"Oh, no deliveries. If you receive any deliveries in the future, I'll sign for them for you." Lin Youyou said in a businesslike manner.
"OK, thanks!"
Lin Youyou watched Gu Jia and Xu Huanshan turn into the corridor, and her smile gradually spread.
Back home, Gu Jia was about to take a shower and change when Xu Huanshan took the opportunity to go downstairs, pull Lin Youyou to a secluded corner, and ask, "What are you doing here?"
Lin Youyou looked aggrieved. "I heard from you that Professor Chen's family is very harmonious, so I thought I should get to know Sister Gu Jia beforehand. I'm doing this for your own good!"
“But if Gu Jia discovers our problem beforehand, it will disrupt my plans! You should resign and find another job!” Xu Huanshan still didn’t dare to mention this to Gu Jia. Having been controlled for nearly ten years, it wasn’t something he could just muster the courage to rebel against.
Xu Huanshan left the corner, leaving Lin Youyou standing there with an uncertain expression.
