Chapter 805: Unnatural, non-accidental death
Chapter 805: Unnatural, non-accidental death
Antaiji Temple.
Several monks were performing a ritual around a corpse, and Ichiro Hatoyama stood aside with a sad look on his face.
Beside him were several colleagues from Mitsubishi Trading Co. and their families, who were comforting him and asking him to mourn.
At this time, a group of people came from a distance, led by Saburo Aso.
"A guest has arrived—" the receptionist shouted loudly when he saw someone coming.
Saburo Aso and others walked into the mourning hall and bowed to pay their respects.
Ichiro Hatoyama was very confused because he didn't know these people at all.
After Saburo Aso finished his greeting, he turned and walked to Ichiro Hatoyama and said, "Mr. Hatoyama, my condolences!"
"Thank you. May I ask who you are?" Hatoyama Ichiro asked in confusion.
"I'm Saburo Aso, deputy captain of the Special High Technology Operations Team!"
Aso Saburo's words made Hatoyama Ichiro's face change, and the other guests' faces also changed. After all, the Special High Technology Department was notorious, and in the perception of these Japanese, the people in this department were not good people.
Hatoyama Ichiro asked, "Captain Aso, I wonder what you are doing at my late wife's funeral hall?"
"There is a case related to your wife. I didn't expect that your wife would suffer an accident. However, there are some situations I would like to ask Mr. Hatoyama, and I hope you will cooperate!" said Saburo Aso.
Ichiro Hatoyama hesitated for a moment, but nodded because he knew he couldn't refuse.
"Let's talk outside!"
"can!"
Arriving at a secluded spot outside the mourning hall, Aso Saburo asked, "Tell me about the circumstances and specific time of your wife's death!"
Ichiro Hatoyama hid nothing and recounted what happened that night.
Aso Saburo frowned after hearing this. "Are you sure she tripped while carrying the warmed wine flask back to the living room, and then hit her forehead on the corner of the marble low table when she fell?"
"Yes, she fell right in front of me, how could I be wrong?" said Ichiro Hatoyama.
Then Saburo Aso asked some more questions, and Ichiro Hatoyama answered the ones he knew and said he didn't know the ones he didn't know.
Aso Saburo asked, "Do you know Ishida?"
"Ishida? Are you talking about Commander Ishida, the Deputy Director of the Concession Police Department?" asked Ichiro Hatoyama.
Aso Saburo was stunned: "Do you really know him?"
"Well, I do know him, but I'm not very familiar with him. I've met him at a few banquets and we've spoken a few words, but that's all!" said Ichiro Hatoyama.
Aso Saburo then asked, "Do you know his wife Hana Nobuko?"
"I've met him twice, but I'm not familiar with him!"
"So...did your wife, Miyoko, know Hanako?"
Ichiro Hatoyama thought for a moment and shook his head, saying, "I met Commander Ishida at a banquet. He and I both brought our wives with us at the time, so they probably only met once. I don't think they knew each other or were very familiar with each other!"
"Have you been home these two days?" asked Saburo Aso.
"No, I've been in the hospital and the temple these past two days and have no time to go back."
Aso Saburo said, "We want to go to your house and see the scene where your wife had the accident. Is that okay?"
"No, you can come and see it anytime!"
"There is one more thing. Your wife's body cannot be cremated for the time being. We may need to perform an autopsy. If the autopsy confirms that the death was caused by an accident, we will notify you immediately. Our autopsy officer is here!" said Saburo Aso.
After hearing this, Hatoyama Ichiro said angrily, "Captain Aso, what on earth did my wife do that you want to investigate her?"
"Mr. Hatoyama, don't get excited. We are investigating a case that may involve your wife. She may be an important witness. We will find out the details!"
With the intervention of spies such as Saburo Aso, the monks hurriedly ended the ritual, and Miyoko Hatoyama's body was carried into a nearby house for an autopsy by the coroner.
An hour and a half later, the coroner walked out of the room, took off his surgical gown, and said to Saburo Aso, "Captain Aso, the preliminary autopsy results show that the deceased did die from hitting his forehead on a hard object, causing brain tissue damage and massive blood loss."
"There are no injuries to the internal organs, and no signs of poisoning from the outside. I collected some of the deceased's blood and plan to take it back for testing to see if there are any other components in the blood!"
After hearing this, Aso Saburo frowned even deeper, "Could it really be just an accident?"
After thinking for a while, he ordered two people to stay here to guard the body and took the others back to Ichiro Hatoyama's residence.
More than half an hour later, Aso and his group arrived outside Ichiro Hatoyama's Shikumen house again.
When I opened the door, there was still a faint smell of blood in the living room.
Saburo Aso waved his hand and asked the surveyors to put on white coats, gloves and shoe covers and enter the scene for investigation.
"You guys, go search the other rooms, especially the bedroom, to see if there are any suspicious items!"
"Hayi!"
Ten minutes later, a spy wearing white gloves picked up a steel ball the size of a soybean from the wall. "Captain, there's a steel ball here. It's strange. The living room is very clean, and the furnishings are very well arranged. Although the floor hasn't been mopped in two days, there's no dust, and there's no other debris or garbage. How could there be a steel ball on the wall?"
Aso Saburo came over, took the steel ball, looked at it, and said, "Put it away and take it back."
"Hayi!"
The agents who went to check other rooms soon left the rooms and reported to Aso that they had found nothing.
"Let's pack up and go back to the department to wait for the coroner's final autopsy report!"
"Hayi!"
Not long after returning to the Special High Technology Bureau, the coroner came to Saburo Aso's office with the final autopsy report.
Saburo Aso took the autopsy report and read it. Sure enough, there was no toxin in the deceased's blood. The report concluded that the deceased died in an accident.
He read every part of the autopsy report from beginning to end. When he saw a line recording that there was a red, swollen and bruised area the size of a copper coin on the right knee of the deceased, he couldn't help but frown.
He suddenly remembered the steel ball he had found by the wall of Hatoyama's house. After a moment's thought, he looked up and asked the coroner, "There's a coin-sized bruise on the deceased's right knee. Is it a new injury or an old one?"
The coroner said: "It should be a recent injury, caused before death, no more than a day ago!"
Aso Saburo pondered this question and then asked, "We found a steel ball near the living room wall where our deceased fell and was injured. Do you think it's possible that Mrs. Hatoyama didn't trip accidentally, but rather someone fired a steel ball that hit her knee, causing her to fall and break her head, resulting in her death?"
The coroner frowned after hearing this, thought for a moment, and said, "A hit to the kneecap would indeed cause instantaneous paralysis of the leg, leading to a loss of support and collapse. But the deceased should have been walking at the time. If someone really shot a steel ball and hit the deceased's kneecap, this... is impossible. Such accuracy is too incredible, isn't it? How could such a person exist?"
A few minutes later, Saburo Aso came to Tadayoshi Sakata's office with the autopsy report and expressed his guess.
After hearing this, Sakata Tadayoshi said, "It seems that this case is becoming more and more interesting, and Ishida is becoming more and more suspicious. I never believe in coincidences. One time may be a coincidence, but the second time is no longer a coincidence! Immediately find the vendor who has set up a stall near Ishida's villa and show him a photo of Hatoyama Miyoko. If it is confirmed that the vendor saw Hatoyama Miyoko, then it means that Hatoyama Miyoko's death is likely related to Ishida!"
