Ch. 140 - Next Time We Gotta Crank It Up
Ch. 140 - Next Time We Gotta Crank It Up
"Old Shen, what's the situation?"The Spirit Suppression Army captain recognized Shen Wushuang and called out.
Shen Wushuang explained: "The earlier explosion killed six Lord beasts. This kid's just over here bragging about it."
He didn't dare tell the truth. Chen Shu's Berserk Potion was too insane to explain.
The captain nodded. "By the way, do you know anything about that explosion?"
All four stiffened. In perfect unison, they declared: "Absolutely no idea!"
"..."
The captain didn't press further. "Frost Canyon will likely be sealed off temporarily. You should head out."
An incident of this scale naturally required investigation. They'd need to confirm there was no ongoing threat before reopening.
The corner of Shen Wushuang's mouth twitched. He fixed Chen Shu with a long, hard stare.
You managed to get an Alternate Dimension shut down on your very first visit...
Chen Shu pretended not to notice and scurried over to the Lord beast corpses, practically skipping.
Butcher knife in his right hand, urea bag in his left, he dismantled the valuable materials from each beast with practiced ease.
"Jackpot, jackpot..."
Chen Shu muttered nonstop. He'd only planned to hunt one Lord—and ended up bagging six.
If there was a next time, he'd absolutely keep up the good work!
The Spirit Suppression squad didn't linger. They headed toward the blast site while notifying all adventuring Beast Tamers to evacuate immediately.
"Back to base!"
Shen Wushuang led the three away.
Chen Shu hoisted his military backpack and asked: "Why are we walking? Let's fly!"
The corner of Shen Wushuang's mouth twitched. He summoned the Ice Phoenix once more.
The once-majestic Ice Phoenix lay sprawled on the ground, looking about as dignified as a dead dog...
"Forget I said anything!"
Chen Shu turned and started walking toward the base.
"By the way—only that one Ice Ape Lord survived. The six that deserted all died. So tell me, what lesson did you learn from this?"
Shen Wushuang asked, hoping the three would understand the importance of never abandoning your companions.
"I know!" Xie Sunan answered first. "Never trust a beast's character—just like you can never trust Chen Shu!"
Shen Wushuang: "..."
"Old Xie, you're truly hopeless!" Xu Xingxing immediately chimed in. "I think the lesson is: don't throw random parties! If they hadn't all gathered in one place, we couldn't have wiped them out!"
Shen Wushuang rubbed his head, feeling a little dazed. "Give me a break. Just stop talking. Let's go."
Chen Shu spoke up: "Teacher, you're not going to let me answer?"
"You? I'm afraid my heart can't take it."
Shen Wushuang strode forward, having officially given up on educating these three.
A thoughtful gleam appeared in Chen Shu's eyes. "Actually, I do have a genuine insight."
"Oh?"
Shen Wushuang turned back, a flicker of anticipation crossing his face.
Chen Shu said with utmost sincerity: "I think the explosives weren't powerful enough! Next time we gotta crank it up!!"
"???"
Shen Wushuang's mind went blank. Is that what I was going for?
Xie Sunan and Xu Xingxing turned to look as well, giving him a thumbs-up. Classic Nanjiang Bandit...
...
Though the Ice Phoenix was severely wounded, the Black-White Python could still hold its own for the time being. The group didn't encounter any further danger.
After two days of travel, they successfully made it back to the Spirit Suppression base.
The base looked noticeably different now. Spirit Suppression soldiers had ramped up patrols significantly. Squads were being dispatched at regular intervals. The entire atmosphere was tense and heavy with vigilance.
Chen Shu thought to himself: Seems like maybe things got a little serious...
"Teacher!"
"Teacher!"
The special training class students had all been waiting patiently.
Shen Wushuang looked over the twenty-one students and gave a satisfied nod.
As long as there were no casualties, that was enough.
"Chen Shu, you three—fall in!"
The trio rejoined the group.
Tang Lie's gaze bored into Chen Shu, his fists clenching involuntarily.
He was furious. He'd been screwed over AGAIN—the opening avalanche had sent his team packing from the start.
"Chen Shu, I want to ask you something."
Xu Xiaoyu nudged him from the side and whispered.
"Hm? What's up?"
"Be honest. Was it you who blew up Frost Canyon?"
In an instant, Xia Bing and Wang Qinghan both turned to look, eager for an answer.
The three of them had been in the same group, happily hunting away, when an explosion scared them straight back to base.
"Me?"
Chen Shu shook his head, laughing helplessly, then pointed at himself. "You think it was ME?"
"Would I, Chen Shu, be that kind of person?"
All three girls nodded emphatically. Absolutely certain.
If there was anyone with the guts to pull that off, it was Chen Shu. No question.
Give him a nuclear bomb and he'd blow up the entire Blue Star!
"Due to a certain someone, this Alternate Dimension expedition will have to end early!"
Shen Wushuang announced, his tone dripping with condemnation. "Only a terrorist could pull off something like this. Whoever did it deserves a thousand cuts. What do you think, Chen Shu?"
"..."
The corner of Chen Shu's mouth twitched. "I think..."
His voice trailed off.
Think WHAT exactly? How am I supposed to answer that? Curse myself?
And honestly, the Berserk Potion was kind of disappointing. Why didn't it just take your Ice Phoenix out for good?
Shen Wushuang raised an eyebrow. "Chen Shu, could it be that you know who did it? Why else would you be stammering? That's not like you at all."
Chen Shu thought for a long moment, then finally said with a perfectly straight face: "Sorry, teacher. I don't know how to curse people."
"..."
The entire class turned around to look at him. Their expressions were indescribable—as if nothing had been said, yet everything had been said.
Doesn't curse people. Just beats them up.
"Alright! We're leaving Frost Canyon!"
Shen Wushuang stopped pressing the issue and led everyone out of the Alternate Dimension.
Just before stepping through, Chen Shu glanced back and murmured: "I'll be back."
SMACK!
Shen Wushuang flicked him hard on the forehead. "On behalf of the entire nation, I thank you—please DON'T come back. There aren't many Alternate Dimensions left for you to blow up."
"..."
The group arrived in Ice Valley Town, planning to rest for the night and return to school in the morning.
Shen Wushuang busied himself calling parents one by one to reassure them everything was fine.
Everyone was free to do as they pleased.
Most students headed back to the hotel. The tension of the Alternate Dimension had kept them wound tight—the moment they relaxed, exhaustion hit like a wall.
Chen Shu's trio, of course, marched excitedly to the Beast Tamer Association.
"Turning in a quest!"
Chen Shu held his urea bag in one hand and waved grandly with the other, announcing it with all the bravado in the world.
Every Beast Tamer in the lobby turned to stare.
With a voice that loud, it was like he was terrified someone might not hear him.
When they saw the urea bag in his hand, their eyes went wide and mouths twitched.
Is the Beast Tamer Association accepting local farm produce now?
