Ch. 89 - I'm Waiting for Backup, What Are You Waiting For?
New Event: Global Dungeons Daily Releases"Sister Fang Si, chase it!" Chen Shu didn't explain further.
That Black Beetle was obviously putting on an act. Its eyes looked fierce, but it kept glancing around—clearly plotting escape routes.
Compared to Chen Shu, an escape master, it was pathetic.
Fang Si nodded and had the Scarlet Flame Dragon take the lead while she followed behind with the Frost Dragon.
Any Black Iron rank Beast Tamer had to develop one habit: always keep a contract spirit by your side. Otherwise accidents happened.
Chen Shu climbed up a large tree and looked toward the distant hotel.
He'd expected the Black Beetle swarm to be wreaking havoc, but instead he saw a massive black shadow flying through the sky with someone clearly standing on top.
"The Spirit Suppression Bureau's here?"
Chen Shu breathed a sigh of relief. Looked like the Black Beetle swarm had died for nothing.
Meanwhile, Fang Si kept chasing. The Black Beetle Lord was extremely fast, but fortunately the Scarlet Flame Dragon had left a flame marker that could lock onto it from a distance.
Tonight, she would slay a lord-level fierce beast all by herself!
Time passed slowly.
Then suddenly, Fang Si's expression froze.
Up ahead, the Scarlet Flame Dragon had stopped, confusion in its eyes as it looked around continuously.
"The marker disappeared?" Fang Si's brow furrowed.
There were only two possibilities. Either the Black Beetle had a skill to remove markers, or... it was dead!
If it was the first option, the Black Beetle Lord would've removed it ages ago.
The flame marker wasn't subtle at all—it was literally a patch of inextinguishable fire on its shell. No way it wouldn't have noticed.
That left only the second possibility.
"It's dead?"
Fang Si's eyes gazed into the night ahead. Someone dared snatch food from her mouth?
Tap tap tap!
Just then, four red gleams appeared ahead, gradually approaching Fang Si.
The Scarlet Flame Dragon's body tensed as it let out low growls.
"The legendary genius? Looks pretty ordinary to me."
A guy wearing a trench coat with a refined scholarly appearance slowly walked over.
Roar!
The Scarlet Flame Dragon's eyes filled with fighting spirit as it continuously exhaled blazing breath, its gaze locked on the contract spirit beside the guy.
A massive dog with two heads stood there, scarlet pupils full of brutality, its aura equally powerful.
The S-rank Double-Headed Demon Dog!
Fang Si's eyes narrowed as she said calmly, "Third-year Su Han?"
"Didn't expect the genius to remember me. I'm honored."
Su Han smiled warmly as he tossed something with his hand.
"Your Black Beetle!"
Fang Si looked down at her feet. It was the recently killed Black Beetle Lord, but its body was torn open—obviously the valuable materials had already been harvested.
"You dare steal my prey?"
The Scarlet Flame Dragon and Frost Dragon both stepped forward. Despite their injuries, they still looked fierce as hell.
"What? Want to test me?"
Su Han let out a cold laugh. The space above his head shattered as a cyan-colored giant bird flew out.
Another S-rank contract spirit—the Wind Spirit Sparrow. Rumor had it that it possessed a trace of Azure Bird bloodline and was absolutely no weaker than dragon-type contract spirits.
Huaxia Academy gathered geniuses from across the nation. Fang Si wasn't the only one with two S-rank contract spirits.
Both sides fell into a standoff.
The night on Taiqing Mountain was particularly cold, but neither of them moved an inch.
Su Han crossed his arms, wanting to see if the legendary school genius actually dared to make a move.
Time ticked by second after second.
From beginning to end, Fang Si maintained a cold, impassive expression without any change.
It was as if the two had fallen into another kind of confrontation.
The night was silent. They were even more silent...
Su Han still stood in place. The night wind swept over, making his trench coat flutter dramatically, looking mysterious and dashing.
But then, everything changed.
"Bag incoming!"
A shout rang out as a human figure appeared behind Su Han out of nowhere.
Shit! A sneak attack!
Su Han's reaction was swift. His two contract spirits immediately moved to protect their master.
But Fang Si's two dragons had been waiting for this exact moment and held them fast.
All four contract spirits instantly erupted into an earth-shattering battle!
Su Han only felt something like a bag thrown over him.
It was Chen Shu and Zhang Dali—they'd arrived behind Su Han without anyone noticing...
After bagging him, Chen Shu immediately retreated without attacking.
The guy was a Black Iron rank Beast Tamer. No way Chen Shu could take him. One punch would probably send him flying.
Now it was Zhang Dali's turn. He gripped a massive iron wok with both hands, legs driving his waist, waist driving his hands, his entire body spinning three hundred sixty degrees.
Whoosh whoosh!
The iron wok cut through the air with violent sounds.
Zhang Dali roared, "Go to hell!"
CLANG!
Su Han, who was just about to pull off the urea bag, instantly saw stars.
His head was hard, but the iron wok was harder!
What did you expect from a wok specifically made for cooking fierce beast meat?
Zhang Dali's strike was equally vicious, knocking Su Han out cold in one hit.
Without their host's consciousness, both contract spirits instantly returned to the Beast Space.
The three's coordination was flawless. It took seconds. Honestly, kind of perfect.
Fang Si couldn't keep up her cold expression anymore—a smile crept onto her face.
She walked over and kicked Su Han, saying, "I was waiting for backup. What were you waiting for?"
"Really young. Doesn't understand how cruel society is." Chen Shu shook his head with a sigh. "Competing with us? You got the skills for that?"
The three pulled down Su Han's backpack and found the Black Beetle Lord materials inside.
"Let's go!"
Fang Si kicked him a few more times, ready to leave.
"Wait!"
Chen Shu's face wore a sinister smile as he quickly started stripping Su Han's clothes.
Fang Si's eyes widened. "What the hell? You pervert?!"
"What are you thinking? Turn around first."
Soon Su Han was down to just his underwear, looking like a naked little lamb.
Zhang Dali said, "Pink underwear? What a freak."
The two covered him with the urea bag, then threw all of Su Han's other clothes down the mountain.
"Done!"
Chen Shu dusted off his hands, ready to leave.
Fang Si's mouth twitched. "You two are savage!"[1]
Tomorrow morning, Su Han would either come down the mountain in pink underwear or wearing a urea bag.
Either way, it was social death[2] of the highest order.
He'd probably be searching online which planet was habitable by tomorrow.
Chen Shu let out a sleazy laugh. "Who told him to show off? Wearing a trench coat in the middle of summer—showoff! Probably thought he was the protagonist!"[3]
[1] Savage (夺笋 duó sǔn): Chinese internet slang that's a pun on 多损 (duō sǔn, "how mean/ruthless"). The phrase literally means "stealing bamboo shoots" but sounds identical to "so mean." Used to describe behavior that's outrageously savage in a humorous way.
[2] Social death (社死 shè sǐ): Chinese internet slang for experiencing such extreme public embarrassment that one wants to disappear from society entirely. Similar to "dying of embarrassment" but more severe.
[3] Protagonist (主角): A meta-joke about xianxia and isekai novel tropes. The "mysterious guy in a trench coat" is a stereotypical entrance for main characters in Chinese web fiction. Chen Shu is mocking Su Han for dressing like a cliché protagonist while getting ambushed like a side character.
