Chapter 665 Dawn (71)
Chapter 665 Dawn (71)
Seven years later.
Outside the women's prison, a black SUV is parked across the street from the prison.
In the driver's seat, Yan Zhen, wearing sunglasses, rested one hand on the steering wheel, glancing at the prison gate every now and then.
In the passenger seat, a man in a suit and tie, Jing Chen, opened the tray table and started an online meeting on his laptop.
Forty minutes later, the prison gates still showed no sign of opening, and Yan Zhen began to feel anxious, frequently checking his watch to keep track of the time.
After Jing Chen ended the online meeting, he saw that Yan Zhen looked impatient. He put away his computer and said in a gentle tone, "If you're worried about the hamburger, you can go back first. I'll take care of things here."
Hamburger is the fifth horse Yan Zhen raised. It was originally a racehorse, but it injured its leg during training.
Horses are large animals, and leg injuries are difficult to treat. Given Hamburger's age, the overall treatment value is not high.
The previous owner intended to euthanize it, but after Yan Zhen learned of the situation, he bought the hamburger at a very low price.
Jing Chen has made a fortune in business over the past few years and invested in an equestrian club in Haicheng. The club has a stable specifically for raising Yan Zhen's horses.
Yan Zhen brought Hamburger to the club and took good care of it.
When I first took over the hamburger, it was in a terrible state; it was not only seriously injured but also pregnant.
It took Yan Zhen more than seven months to cure Hamburger.
However, due to the excessive medication used during treatment, the veterinarian said there was a risk of dystocia (difficult labor).
With her due date just a few days away, Yan Zhen was so worried that she couldn't eat or sleep. She even took a leave of absence from school and has been spending 24 hours a day at the club watching over Hamburgers.
If it weren't for picking up Chu Huian from prison today, she wouldn't have left Haicheng at all.
"No, I want to see with my own eyes what Chu Huian has become."
As soon as Yan Zhen finished speaking, the prison gate across the street slowly opened, and Chu Huian walked out carrying her luggage.
Yan Zhen snapped his fingers and called to Jing Chen, "Get out of the car."
The two crossed the street and met Chu Huian on the other side.
Chu Huian's hair had turned mostly white, and wrinkles were deeply etched around her eyes. Two deep nasolabial folds added to her sorrowful appearance, and her eyes were dull and lifeless, as if they had been worn down by seven years of imprisonment.
To Yan Zhen's surprise, Chu Huian had actually gained some weight after serving seven years in prison.
But then I thought about it again. In the past, Chu Huian had to eat three meals a day on time in prison to maintain her figure, so it was normal for her to gain weight.
Upon seeing Yan Zhen and Jing Chen, Chu Huian's expression was full of wariness: "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to take you home." Yan Zhen took off his sunglasses, opened his arms, and stepped forward enthusiastically, as if to give Chu Huian a hug.
Jing Chen cooperatively pulled a firework tube from his coat pocket, and with a "bang," it went off, showering Chu Huian with colorful fireworks.
Chu Huian was furious at the sight of the brother and sister's cheeky behavior. She immediately grabbed her bag and took two steps back to avoid them, saying, "Don't come any closer!"
Yan Zhen paused, a hurt expression on his face: "Mom, do you have to do this to me? We haven't seen each other for seven years, don't you miss me? I miss you so much..."
"...Get out of here! You scheming bastard!" Chu Huian cursed, then turned and walked towards the bus stop not far away, clutching her bag.
Yan Zhen followed slowly: "If you don't come with us, where else can you go?"
Chu Huian quickened her pace: "None of your business!"
“You have no family left. If you don’t come with me, you won’t even have a place to stay.”
Chu Huian turned a deaf ear.
"You're not thinking of going to rely on Aunt Chen, are you?" Yan Zhen said. "But the Chen family went bankrupt."
Chu Huian paused in her steps.
"Don't you know? There are no newspapers or news in prison? Three years ago, Aunt Chen's son hit and killed someone with his car. The incident became a big deal, and the Chen family was exposed. Aunt Chen's husband was a huge corrupt official. One of them went to prison, and the other got out."
Chu Huian: "..."
"As for the cars, houses, stocks, beauty salons, and Yan Yi's inheritance that you had before you went to prison, they are all in my name now," Yan Zhen said. "Mom, come with me. I will take care of you from now on. This is what I should do as your daughter."
Chu Huian was trembling with rage. She whirled around, glaring at Yan Zhen, and then threw her bag at her, yelling, "Get out! Get out of here!"
Yan Zhen dodged to the side: "Seven years have passed, and you've gotten stronger."
Chu Huian picked up her bag, ran to the bus stop without looking back, and boarded a bus that had just arrived.
Yan Zhen had anticipated Chu Huian's reaction.
"Follow."
The SUV followed the bus, swaying and rattling as it drove from the desolate suburbs into Yuncheng.
Chu Huian first checked into a cheap little hotel, and after putting down her luggage, she still couldn't give up and took a taxi to visit the former Yan family villa and several other properties under her name.
She was saddened to discover that Yan Zhen had not lied. The beauty salon had gone out of business, the Yan family villa had changed hands, she couldn't even get into the community, and all the properties under her name had been sold off.
Everything she and Yan Yi had worked so hard for half their lives went to Yan Zhen.
Chu Huian returned to the hotel, seething with anger, only to find her luggage thrown out at the hotel entrance.
She was stunned and took her luggage to the front desk to demand an explanation.
The receptionist was a plump middle-aged woman who was eating sunflower seeds while watching a short drama.
Upon seeing Chu Huian enter, his expression immediately turned as if he had seen a plague god, and he waved his hand as if shooing away flies: "Go away, go away! We don't serve people with mental problems here."
Chu Huian was kicked out and didn't even get her deposit back.
She initially thought she was just unlucky to have stumbled upon a shady establishment, but when she stepped out of the hotel and saw Yan Zhen and Jing Chen smiling at her across the street with their arms crossed, Chu Huian realized that they were the ones behind it all.
For the rest of the day, Yan Zhen and Jing Chen followed Chu Huian like ghosts, and no matter whether she wanted to eat or find a guesthouse or hostel to stay in, the brother and sister would manage to get her kicked out by the establishment.
As night fell, Chu Huian, exhausted from a day's journey, squatted on the street with her luggage. Feeling sleepy and hungry, she was at a loss, not knowing where to go next.
Just then, footsteps sounded from not far away. Chu Huian looked up and saw Yan Zhen, who seemed to be haunting her, standing in front of her with a fast food meal, looking down at her.
"Eat or not?"
Chu Huian glared at her. Never before had she regretted her decision to bring Yan Zhen home as much as she did now.
How is this any different from letting a wolf into the house?!
But right now, the most important thing is to find a place to live, otherwise she will be homeless.
Although she didn't know why Yan Zhen was bothering her, she knew that this was a society governed by law, and even if Yan Zhen and Jing Chen were incredibly bold, they couldn't possibly take her life.
Thinking of this, Chu Huian snatched the fast food and began to eat it in large mouthfuls without any regard for her image.
"That's right," Yan Zhen said with a smile. "Come with me after dinner, and I'll arrange accommodation for you."
Chu Huian did not answer.
After they finished eating, Jing Chen drove over, and when Yan Zhen opened the car door, Chu Huian didn't refuse anymore.
