Chapter 9: Direct hit!
Chapter 9: Direct hit!
Bai Yao is the second child in the Bai family. He has an older brother who died heroically for his country when he was young.
The reason why the Bai family can have its current status is, firstly, because the old man has spent half his life fighting for the empire, and secondly, because of the protection of this eldest brother. This has made it possible for the two brothers and the entire Bai family to have smooth careers.
In order to carry on his father and brother's aspirations, he also joined the army after joining the army. He had quite the style of Mr. Bai back then. Anyone who saw him would praise him for his father's style and said that there would be successors.
Bai Yao is stationed outside with the army all year round and only comes back around the anniversary of his eldest brother's death every year. Bai Yuan is the first daughter of this generation in the Bai family, so it stands to reason that he should come back to see her, but on the day of his departure he suddenly receives a task from his superiors, followed by all kinds of trivial matters.
He wanted to find a chance to see his little niece, but he could never get together.
I happened to be passing by Haikou on my way today, and heard that my niece had just fallen ill, so I wanted to say hello in advance, so I went upstairs to take a look and then left.
It took me several calls to Bai Hui before I was able to get in touch with him. Before I could even elaborate, he sent me a string of phone numbers.
He called several times, but no one answered, so he contacted Bai Hui and got the nanny's cell phone number. He called again, but still no answer. A trace of solemnity appeared on Bai Yao's brows.
When the military vehicle finally arrived downstairs of the community, he said hello to his subordinates and took the elevator upstairs.
I knocked on the door for a long time following the door number but no one opened it, so I called again. This time I could finally hear the loud square dance music from inside.
Bai Yao didn't see anyone, and returned to the car with a gloomy face. All his subordinates were trained under him and had been through life and death with him. Now that they understood the reason, they all comforted him:
"Captain Bai, we didn't see anyone? The babysitter might be taking him to the park at this time. Why don't we go ask around, maybe he's on his way back."
"That's right, Captain Kashiwa. It's not easy for you to come out. I don't know when the next time will be. I also want to see my niece."
Bai Yao pondered for a while and felt that it made sense.
When the young man in the passenger seat saw that something was going to happen, he unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car. Within five minutes, he came back with a smug smile on his face.
"I found out. I asked several people, and they all said that they might be playing cards in the card room of Building 8 in Xin'an Community in the next block. Captain Bai, your nanny is quite famous in this area. She will know everything if you ask her."
This sounds like nothing, but if you think about it carefully, is it because the nanny is popular, or is it because she goes out to play cards every day and everyone in the neighborhood knows about it?
Although he knew that the other party was giving him a good reminder, Bai Yao did not pursue the matter further. He would find the person later anyway and would know the truth by asking him.
The car started slowly, and Bai Yao's attention was suddenly drawn to the window. He couldn't help but look out for a few seconds, until his field of vision became so small that it was blurred, and then he looked away.
The young man in the back seat leaned over and said, "Captain Bai, did you notice that car too? I knew it was weird. The place where it was parked is a blind spot for surveillance. Just ten minutes after you got on, three people came and followed you nearby."
"Are you all in the car?"
"Yes, they all went up. The car windows were blackened. I looked carefully and it's not blackout stickers, nor is it one-way glass. The material absorbs light, and it's obvious that they don't want to draw attention."
They have all received professional training and can tell at a glance whether it is a civilian car or not. They can determine its composition with 90% certainty after just one glance, so there is basically no chance of misjudgment.
That small van was obviously used to transport goods, but what kind of goods were being transported...
"Captain Bai, do you want to send someone to follow?"
Bai Yao did not hesitate and nodded in agreement, "Yes."
The guy in the back seat immediately pulled out a walkie-talkie from his bag and said, "Five cars are following us."
They were returning to the military area after completing their mission and turned here on the way. There were five cars in total. The last one was unremarkable in appearance. It received the signal and left the convoy and blended into the traffic quietly.
Bai Yao listened to other people's reports, but his thoughts were still on the car just now.
After years of training, he was extremely sharp in judging facts and any slight movement. Just now, he clearly saw a woman holding a child getting on the suspicious "cargo" truck.
Although the child in her arms never showed his face, he happened to reach out and pull the red rope around his neck before getting on the bus.
After a brief refraction of light, a piece of jade could be vaguely seen hanging on it.
Bai Yao became increasingly uneasy, feeling that something was about to happen.
Yunlan Huating is an upscale residential area, but it is only across the street from Xin'an residential area in the old city.
As the second largest city in the country, Haikou is a place where every inch of land is valuable, and this involves preserving the value of old artistic buildings, so it is common to see new and old residential areas adjacent to each other.
Large supermarkets and subways are on the east side, so residents of Yunlan Huating rarely pass through Xin'an Community, but on the other hand, Yunlan Huating is a must-pass for residents of Xin'an Community.
It was not until the car stopped in front of Building 8 in Xin'an Community that he vaguely remembered that his wife had obtained a piece of top-quality jade last year. When he heard that his niece was born prematurely and was weak, he asked someone to carve a jade plaque at the best water head and gave it to her as a hundred-day gift, also tied with a red rope.
After meeting Zhao Meiting, he already had about 70% guesses in his mind. After finally confirming that Bai Yuan and the proprietress were not there, he became more certain of what he thought.
His men worked efficiently and soon a message was sent to his mobile phone.
Bai Yao frowned and flipped through the photos, enlarged one of them and put it under Zhao Meiting's eyes.
"Identify, is it her?"
Zhao Meiting recognized the woman in the photo at a glance. She was the proprietress of the card room whose surname was Xu.
Bai Yao turned over another page and showed it to Zhao Meiting.
"do you know it?"
This time, Zhao Meiting took a while to identify the person. "She looks familiar. I feel like I've seen her somewhere before... Isn't this the boss lady's lover? We've met several times before. Sir, this is..."
Bai Yao put away his phone and was too lazy to explain to her.
"If you have anything to say, go to the police station and tell them." Then he raised his chin to the men who came in from behind and said, "Take him away."
Zhao Meiting was so shocked that she didn't understand for a moment. It was only when the young man in military uniform saluted her and walked forward to escort the person that she really panicked.
"You, what are you doing! Let me go, let me go! I just took a few more cans of milk powder, why are you arresting me!"
The young man in military uniform walked over and said, "Auntie, this is a matter of official business. If you have any more crimes to confess, you can explain them slowly at the police station."
Not only her, but all the people in the card room were detained and kept for investigation.
Bai Yao got a headache when he heard all this nonsense. He took out his cell phone and called Bai Hui, but the call still didn't go through. So he logged into WeChat, found the contact, pressed the voice button and started cursing. It was unknown when the other party would see it.
Halfway through his scolding, another phone call came in, but it was not Bai Hui who answered the phone.
Bai Yao calmed down and pressed the answer button, only to hear the person on the other end quickly report:
"Captain Bai, the checkpoint has been set up and the crowd has been evacuated. The other party has discovered our intention and is preparing to break through. Please give us your instructions."
Bai Yao didn't hesitate at all: "Just hit it!"
Sometimes opportunities are fleeting, and if you seize them you can turn the tide; but if you fail to seize them, no one knows what the consequences will be.
"Roger that!"
After about ten seconds, a loud noise came from the other end of the phone, followed by a chaotic sound.
Bai Yao didn't hang up the phone, but just listened until the other party's report sounded again.
"Captain Bai, the mission was successful. Seven people were captured. We are in the process of clearing them out. We have seized three firearms and some ammunition. We have sent out military dogs to conduct the final search—"
Bai Yao listened to each item one by one with an unchanged expression, and it was obvious that he had everything under control.
"--That's all. Report completed. Uh, Captain Bai." The man paused for a moment, as if he didn't know where to start. "...There's also a child..."
"Yeah, I know." Bai Yao rubbed his temples, and finally let go of his worries. "Look, that's my niece."
"...???"
