Chapter 1810 Building a Nunnery
Chapter 1810 Building a Nunnery
Zhuoyang didn't speak, but upon seeing Wan Lianxing, a slight smile appeared on her pained face.
Wan Lianxing continued, "To save your life, we dispatched a chief physician and two imperial physicians yesterday, and it took them an hour to pull you back from the brink of death. You have quite the influence; the Empress came here early this morning to serve you. You mustn't do anything foolish again! Our bodies and hair are gifts from our parents; we mustn't harm them!"
Zhuoyang's face was filled with sorrow as she said softly, "My mother left me long ago, and my father is nowhere to be found. What face do I, a princess of a fallen kingdom, have to live?"
"Gratitude and grudges will be settled, and misfortune should not befall children and grandchildren. You are a daughter, and you do not need to bear these grudges!"
Zhuoyang murmured absentmindedly, "It's all because of me. If I hadn't been so willful and caused you to go to prison, you would still be the elegant Marquis of Wanxin, my father would still be the high and mighty monarch, and I wouldn't be a princess of a fallen kingdom. I caused you to raise an army in rebellion, caused my father to become an unrighteous ruler, caused the people of Dalang to die tragically under the blades of Yato, and caused Dalang to be left without a single soldier. I am the culprit, I am the one who deserves to die a thousand deaths, I can never forgive myself! I know you hate me to the bone, you spared my life out of consideration for our past relationship. I have caused this terrible consequence, I know I was wrong, but you shouldn't have saved me, I shouldn't have lived! You can save me this time, but you can't save me next time!"
Wan Lianxing gently shook his head. Everything was as he had thought. "It seems my harem is not good at supporting people. It's been two years, and you've committed suicide twice. How can you expect to live a good life and regain your freedom? Let you leave?"
Zhuoyang coughed lightly, which aggravated his wound, causing his face to contort in pain. "I am guilty! I will be a sinner no matter where I go! I have no face to live!"
Wan Lianxing sighed, "Since you are guilty, you want to die without atoning for your sins! This is not heroism, but escaping responsibility!"
Zhuoyang's dazed eyes refocused. "You want me to atone for my sins?"
"Yes, you cannot die without atonement. If you aton for your sins and then seek death again, I will not stop you!"
Zhuoyang fell into deep thought, as if making some kind of decision. After a long while, he gently opened his mouth and said, "Alright, then tell me, how do you want me to atone for my sins?"
"Once you've fully recovered, go to a nunnery and spend your days with the ancient Buddha and the dim lamp, chanting mantras and counting prayer beads, eating simple meals, to atone for all your sins!"
"Okay! I'll listen to you. I'll go to the nunnery to copy scriptures and chant Buddhist prayers to atone for my sins!"
Hearing a noise at the door, Zhong Siyu turned around and saw Wan Lianxing walking out with a solemn expression, seemingly lost in thought.
Zhong Siyu stepped forward slowly, "Why did you come out so quickly!"
Wan Lianxing put on a smiling face, "If I had come out late, wouldn't you have started to have all sorts of wild thoughts?" Wan Lianxing was most adept at understanding people's hearts!
Zhong Siyu smiled and said, "Your Majesty has wronged me. I was not thinking anything of the sort. I was only thinking of Your Majesty's best interests!"
Wan Lianxing nodded slightly, "I know you are understanding and obedient to me! I will not let you suffer!"
Wan Lianxing pulled Zhong Siyu's hand and walked out. Zhong Siyu looked back and said, "Your Majesty, Princess Zhuoyang still has a bowl of medicine to be fed. Where are you taking me?"
Wan Lianxing patted Zhong Siyu's hand. "I know you've lowered yourself to take care of Zhuoyang for my sake, but Zhuoyang feels guilty. If you stay here to serve her, it might delay her recovery! She can't bear it. Just leave this place to the servants!"
"This? These next few days are crucial. Imperial Physician Li also said that she should be taken good care of. My care will help her recover sooner. When she is in a bad mood, I can also comfort her. I am afraid that she will have suicidal thoughts again. Your Majesty also knows that her body is very weak and cannot withstand any more suicide!"
Wan Lianxing patted Zhong Siyu's hand gently again, "Your Majesty need not worry, I have already spoken to her and she will not attempt suicide again!"
Zhong Siyu's heart tightened. "What did the Emperor say that was so effective!"
Wan Lianxing looked at Zhong Siyu, "I have decided to give her a title!"
Zhong Siyu paused, her face paling, when she heard Wan Lianxing burst into laughter. "Look how frightened the Empress is! All those righteous words you spoke last night were just to fool me. You've never told me the truth before!"
Zhong Siyu's face suddenly turned red, all the way to the roots of her neck. "Your Majesty, I am not being hypocritical. I am thinking of Your Majesty. I just didn't realize it. I will have the Ministry of Rites handle this matter."
Wan Lianxing tugged at Zhong Siyu's hand, "I was just teasing you! I've decided that once Zhuoyang has recovered, I'll send her out of the palace!"
This surprised Zhong Siyu even more than the Emperor's offer of a formal title to Zhuoyang. Two years had passed, and the Emperor had really decided to send him away? In Zhong Siyu's mind, this person could no longer be sent away.
Zhong Siyu felt it was all so unreal and asked softly, "Where are we going?"
Wan Lianxing said calmly, "A nunnery!"
"A nunnery?" Zhong Siyu was utterly shocked. Even if this person were sent away, the Emperor would still provide her with a life of luxury and protect her for the rest of her life. Why would he suddenly want to send her to a nunnery? This didn't seem like something the Emperor would do.
"Yes, a nunnery. I want her to go to a nunnery to atone for her sins!"
Zhong Siyu felt this was more like a joke. "Atoning for your sins? Is Your Majesty serious? You're not just acting on a whim, are you? Shouldn't you think about it again?"
"Do I look like I'm lying? It's true, I just said this to her in the room! And she agreed!"
Zhong Siyu found it hard to believe that a person who had attempted suicide twice could stop after just a few words from the Emperor and even agree to go to a nunnery. Where did things go wrong?
Zhong Siyu pondered for a while before realizing that she neither understood the Emperor nor Princess Zhuoyang!
When everyone was alone, with only Wan Lianxing and the old steward inside the room, the old steward asked Wan Lianxing, "Your Majesty, should we reconsider? Do we really want to send Miss Zhuoyang to a nunnery?"
Wan Lianxing nodded: "Only in this way can she survive! Go, find someone to build a nunnery!"
"Your Majesty, are you really not going to reconsider?"
"What are you still thinking about? Send them away, and the Empress won't have to be so suspicious. By the way, hurry up and build the nunnery, but be careful when you build it!"
"This old servant understands. This old servant will immediately send someone to oversee this matter!"
"Why bother inviting anyone else? Aren't there already people at Prince Pang's residence!"
The old steward smiled and stroked his beard. "This old servant will go to Prince Pang's residence to invite the Princess Consort!"
Wan Lianxing beckoned, and the old steward left the palace.
At the Prince Pang's residence, Shang Xi was making shoes with some of the women in the family in a side courtyard!
Upon hearing that the old housekeeper had arrived, Shang Xi quickly got up and went out to greet him.
