Chapter 173 Secretly Following
Chapter 173 Secretly Following
It was almost noon when I came out of the headquarters office building.
When Lin Zhou was driven home, Su Wanqing and her father Su Guohua had already packed their luggage. Lin Xiaofeng's small backpack was filled with toys and picture books. The little guy was squatting on the ground, checking it over and over again, afraid of forgetting something.
Looking at the scene before him, Lin Zhou felt a surge of warmth in his heart. This was probably what the warmth of home was all about.
Su Wanqing walked to his side and whispered:
"Everything is packed. The Hong Kong specialties for Wanrong are all packed, as well as some things for Dad. Everything is ready."
"Okay, that's good." Lin Zhou smiled and put his arm around Su Wanqing's shoulder.
"We'll head to the border early tomorrow morning, and if all goes well, we should arrive in Beijing by tomorrow afternoon."
Su Guohua sighed softly, a deep feeling welling up inside him:
"So many years have passed in the blink of an eye. I never thought I would be able to return to the mainland. I wonder if my old neighbors from my hometown are still around." His tone carried a hint of melancholy and nostalgia.
Lin Zhou patted his father-in-law on the shoulder and comforted him, "Dad, once we get to Beijing, we'll go see Su Wanrong and ask about the situation back home."
Su Guohua nodded, a tear welling up in his eyes. It was hard to leave his homeland, and he couldn't forget his hometown. That land held all his childhood memories, and after decades, he was finally going to set foot on it again.
"Alright, let's eat together! We can talk about anything else after we finish eating," Su Wanqing said, noticing that the maid had already set lunch on the table.
Early on the third day, Lin Zhou and his family packed up and headed to the border. As the car drove along the road, the scenery outside the window gradually receded. Lin Xiaofeng leaned against the car window, his eyes wide open, full of anticipation.
Su Guohua sat to the side, closing his eyes to rest, but could not hide his excitement.
When the car arrived at the port, there were already quite a few pedestrians coming and going, bustling but orderly.
Lin Zhou was about to get out of the car with his family to complete the customs procedures when he suddenly heard familiar footsteps behind him, accompanied by a gruff shout: "Mr. Lin! Wait for us!"
Lin Zhou turned around and saw Zhao Jianjun leading five tall men walking quickly towards him. They were his comrades-in-arms: Li Tieniu, Wang Yong, Zhang Meng, Liu Jianguo, and Chen Mo.
All of them were dressed neatly, carrying simple bags, and wearing cheerful smiles.
"Jianjun, what brings you here?" Lin Zhou was somewhat surprised. He had clearly arranged for Zhao Jianjun to stay in Hong Kong to oversee things, but he didn't expect them to follow him here.
Zhao Jianjun walked up to Lin Zhou, scratched his head, and said with a hint of embarrassment but also a firm determination:
"Mr. Lin, we've discussed it, and since you're taking your family back to Beijing, which is a long journey, having a few more people with you will be a good option."
Besides, my brothers and I left the mainland in the 1960s, and it's been fourteen years since then, until 1981. We've long wanted to go back and see it for ourselves. This is a good opportunity to openly and legitimately return and witness the changes in our homeland.
Li Tieniu, who was standing to the side, also spoke up:
"President Lin, we are all former reconnaissance soldiers, and you know how skilled we are. With us by your side, you can rest assured that President Su and the young master are safe!" He was burly and spoke in a booming voice, exuding a kind of honest and straightforward honesty.
Wang Yong, Zhang Meng, and the others nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with anticipation as they said:
"Mr. Lin, let us come with you! We want to go back and see the sights too!"
Lin Zhou looked at the six people in front of him, his heart filled with emotion.
Zhao Jianjun and his comrades-in-arms were all secretly brought back from the mainland by Zhao Jianjun back then. At that time, Zhonghua Security Company had just been established and was short of soldiers and generals!
It was thanks to these comrades who were former reconnaissance soldiers that the security company gradually grew and became one of the top security organizations in Hong Kong.
They were not only Zhao Jianjun's subordinates, but also his brothers who had gone through thick and thin with him. Over the years, they had followed him in battles across the country and made great contributions.
Having been away from the mainland for over a decade, their longing for their homeland is ingrained in their very bones.
Now that they have the opportunity to go back openly and legitimately, Lin Zhou understands that same eagerness.
"Alright, then you can come with us." Lin Zhou nodded and said with a smile, "It's perfect, I feel more at ease with you guys around."
Upon hearing Lin Zhou's words, Zhao Jianjun and the other five men all beamed with joy, rubbing their hands excitedly, their eyes filled with even greater anticipation. Fourteen years of longing for their homeland, day and night, were finally about to be returned to; their excitement was beyond words.
Su Wanqing and Su Guohua greeted the group with smiles. Su Wanqing said, "With you all with us, we feel much more at ease. Thank you for your hard work along the way."
"President Su, you're too kind. This is what we should do," Zhao Jianjun said quickly, his straightforwardness as a soldier fully embodying his character.
Lin Xiaofeng looked curiously at the six uncles in front of him. They were all tall, with sharp eyes and a unique aura. The little guy sidled up to Lin Zhou and whispered, "Dad, are all these uncles soldiers? They look so tough."
Lin Zhou rubbed his son's head and said with a smile, "Yes, these uncles are all very capable soldiers. With them protecting you in the future, no one will dare to bully you."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xiaofeng immediately raised his little head, bowed to Zhao Jianjun and the others, and said in his childish voice, "Thank you, uncles!"
This made everyone burst into laughter. Zhao Jianjun bent down and patted Lin Xiaofeng's head, his eyes full of tenderness: "Young master is so good. Don't worry, your uncles will definitely protect you."
The group chatted and laughed as they walked into the port to complete the customs procedures, and soon all the formalities were completed.
The customs clearance process went very smoothly. When they stepped onto the mainland soil, Zhao Jianjun and the other five stopped, looked down at the ground beneath their feet, and tears welled up in their eyes.
Fourteen years of longing, fourteen years of anticipation—finally, they set foot on their homeland. The excitement in their hearts was indescribable. They reached out and gently touched the ground, as if touching long-lost relatives, murmuring:
"We're back, we've finally made it back..."
Su Guohua's eyes also reddened. He stood there, speechless for a long time, his eyes greedily taking in everything before him. Every blade of grass and every tree here exuded a familiar feeling. This was the land that gave him birth and nurtured him, the homeland that he longed for.
Lin Zhou looked at the scene before him, his heart filled with emotion. For Zhao Jianjun and his six companions, and for Su Guohua, this land held a special meaning; it was the root of their bloodline, an eternal bond.
The group didn't have much time to reflect before taking a short rest and being driven to Guangzhou Airport by a pre-arranged vehicle.
From the border crossing to the airport, the journey was smooth, and the scenery along the way gradually came into view. The rice paddies on both sides of the road stretched as far as the eye could see, and the smoke from the chimneys of the distant villages rose in the air, exuding a simple and rustic charm that was completely different from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, yet had its own unique appeal.
Zhao Jianjun and his six companions leaned against the car windows the entire way, their eyes greedily scanning the outside world, afraid of missing a single detail. Fourteen years had passed, yet the mainland hadn't changed much!
