Chapter 234 Fashion Design Newcomer Award
Chapter 234 Fashion Design Newcomer Award
Standing backstage, Zhang Mengmeng watched Sun Fei's perfect performance with great excitement.
Three years of hard work have finally been put to the test on this stage.
"Mengmeng, you did it!" After stepping off the stage, Sun Fei gave Zhang Mengmeng a big hug, her eyes full of pride. "Your design has brought honor to the Chinese people!"
Just as Zhang Mengmeng was immersed in the joy of success, a cool voice sounded behind her: "Zhang Mengmeng, is that right?"
She turned around and saw a tall, blonde woman standing in front of her. The woman was wearing a black high-necked dress, exuding a cold and aloof air, and her eyes radiated an aura that was impossible to ignore.
"You're Haley?" Zhang Mengmeng asked, somewhat surprised. Haley was a genius in the fashion design world, extremely arrogant, with a unique personality—the kind of person you could never forget after just one meeting.
Haley looked Zhang Mengmeng up and down without hiding her gaze, but strangely, this scrutiny wasn't unpleasant.
“Your design is very interesting,” Haley said coolly, with a rare hint of approval in her tone. “Let’s have dinner together after tonight’s event.”
Zhang Mengmeng paused for a moment, then quickly shook her head: "Thank you, but my company has a dinner party tonight, so I'm afraid I won't have time."
Haley, however, didn't seem to mind and smiled slightly: "It's okay, I can go with them. I don't eat much, so please don't refuse again."
Zhang Mengmeng was speechless. Looking at Haley's confident demeanor, she knew it would be difficult for her to refuse.
Haley waved her hand, turned and left: "I have to go now, see you later."
Zhang Mengmeng stood in a corner backstage, watching Haley's back, and sighed helplessly: "How can this person be so unreasonable, yet so impossible to refuse?"
Sun Fei walked over, patted her on the shoulder, and said with a hint of teasing in her eyes, "Hey, Haley, you wouldn't happen to have a crush on you, would you?"
Zhang Mengmeng was taken aback, then raised an eyebrow and asked, "So you're interested in me too?"
Sun Fei burst into laughter at her words: "You're such a clever one! But seriously, there must be a reason why Haley would invite you."
Zhang Mengmeng shrugged, a confident smile curving her lips: "Who cares? I'm not going to lose out anyway."
The fashion show came to a close amidst applause.
Zhang Mengmeng stood on the awards stage, holding high the trophies for the Newcomer Costume Design Award and the Best Costume Fashion Award.
At this moment, her three years of hard work finally paid off.
“Three years ago, I set a goal for myself: to become a designer recognized by professionals,” Zhang Mengmeng said on stage, her voice firm and confident. “Today, I have achieved it.”
A thunderous applause erupted from the audience. She smiled slightly and gazed into the distance. She knew this was just the beginning, and there was still a long road ahead.
Backstage, Zhang Mengmeng couldn't wait to make a video call to her father.
On the screen, the father's face looked somewhat tired, but when he saw her smile, a hint of amusement flashed in his eyes.
"Mengmeng, congratulations!" The father's voice was a little hoarse, but his tone was very gentle.
"Dad, I got my bonus!" Zhang Mengmeng said excitedly. "When I get back, we'll renovate the house and buy you a nice massage chair so you can relax."
A smile appeared on the father's face, and a hint of emotion flashed in his eyes: "Very good. As long as you are doing well, I am at ease."
Three years ago, Zhang Mengmeng fell seriously ill and woke up to find that she had lost all her memories.
Her father was there for her, helping her recover her memory and rediscover her design talent bit by bit. To support her, her father even sold their house in their hometown to accompany her to Milan.
In Milan, Zhang Mengmeng met a group of like-minded friends. Together they opened a studio, five designers—three men and two women—and got along incredibly well.
"Mengmeng, we have to celebrate properly tonight's dinner party!" Li Ming, her colleague at the studio, patted her on the shoulder, his eyes full of excitement.
“Yeah, and there’s also an invitation from Haley, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!” Another colleague, Lin Yue, chimed in, her voice filled with anticipation.
Dinner was at a high-end restaurant, where Zhang Mengmeng and her colleagues sat together in a lively and cheerful atmosphere. However, when Haley arrived, the entire atmosphere of the restaurant changed.
Haley walked to the table and smiled slightly, "Sorry to keep everyone waiting." But her gaze remained fixed on Zhang Mengmeng's face, as if the others didn't exist.
Zhang Mengmeng felt a little awkward, but still responded politely, "It's alright, Mr. Haley, it's so nice that you could come."
“Just call me Haley.” He raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “I always feel like you remind me of someone I’ve met before.”
Zhang Mengmeng was taken aback for a moment, then teased, "So, are you going to say that you fell in love with me at first sight?"
A hint of a smile flashed in Haley's eyes: "What if I say yes?"
Zhang Mengmeng laughed at his words: "Then I regret to say that I am not interested in you."
Haley, however, didn't seem to mind and instead leaned closer: "To be honest, you remind me of someone—Jack."
Zhang Mengmeng was taken aback; she had never heard of this name before: "Jack? Who's that?"
A complex look flashed in Haley's eyes: "Mr. Tan, you must have heard of him, right?"
Zhang Mengmeng shook her head, completely bewildered: "I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about."
Haley smiled slightly at her confused expression: "It seems you really don't know. But it's okay, Jack has been looking for someone called Mrs. Tan, and I thought you were the one he was looking for."
Zhang Mengmeng was even more confused: "Why do I have to become someone else's Mrs. Tan? What are you talking about?"
Seeing her confused expression, Haley remained silent for a moment before saying seriously, "Don't worry, I won't tell Jack I've seen you. But..." He took out a business card from his pocket and handed it to Zhang Mengmeng, "If you're interested, you can be a model for our magazine. Your style is perfect for it."
Zhang Mengmeng took the business card and shook her head slightly: "Sorry, I'm not interested in being a model. Besides, I'm not in good health, and my dad wouldn't agree."
Haley looked at her, a serious glint in her eyes: "Then let's talk about it when you're interested. Keep this business card safe, and contact me anytime if you need anything."
Zhang Mengmeng looked at the business card in her hand and smiled slightly: "Thank you, but I don't think I'll trouble you."
Nevertheless, she carefully put the business card away. She knew Haley was a respectable person, even though she felt she would never need the card.
