Chapter 431 Magic Summoning
Chapter 431 Magic Summoning
"So what?" Bridal said nonchalantly. "We're all fine here! Just give us a straight answer: are you going or not?"
"No," Fenrir and the other two said in unison, their voices firm and resolute.
"Are you really not going?" Bridal asked again.
"No, we're not going," was the same answer from all three.
Bridal shrugged and said, "Fine, fine, you guys don't have to go then. Bridal, we'll go."
Chao Bufan had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, slowly exhaling, while his hands were crossed in front of his chest. He stood there quietly without making a sound, but you could tell from his expression that he was thinking about something. In just a few dozen seconds, countless thoughts flashed through his mind.
He had been studying magic at the magic academy for a full month now. While he had gained a lot in that time, he only realized today that magic, like Taoism, is an endless pursuit. The casual guidance from Professor Kressdorf and his colleagues was more valuable than a month of study at the academy. It seemed that simply learning without practice was useless; one needed a master to guide them and avoid many pitfalls. But these weren't the biggest concerns. What truly perplexed him was that magic possessed a unique skill—summoning—and the highest level of summoning was the ability to summon the four ancient gods. He remembered a few months ago when they were besieging the four major gangs; that foreigner named Williams had used a magic stone to summon the four ancient gods of wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. If it weren't for the timely appearance of those four divine beasts, he would have been doomed.
Thinking about it now, Williams' magical abilities didn't seem that impressive. At most, he was just a high-level fourth-rank mage. With my current magical level, I couldn't possibly do that. So how did he manage it? What exactly happened? Was it just with a Philosopher's Stone?
He thought carefully about the situation at the time and felt that the Philosopher's Stone that Williams used was somewhat different from the Philosopher's Stones he had seen. It wasn't that it was natural or man-made, but rather that the energy emanating from the Philosopher's Stone that Thor had taken back felt strange. The energy contained in that Philosopher's Stone was completely different from the energy contained in the natural Philosopher's Stone that he possessed.
Is it really a problem with the Philosopher's Stone itself?
Chao Bufan was completely baffled. What he didn't know was that the magic stone Williams had taken out was a rare magic crystal that Williams had obtained by chance.
Bridal put his hand on Super Extraordinary's shoulder, and Super Extraordinary stopped thinking, picked up his cigarette butt and threw it on the ground, saying, "No rush, I have a few questions I want to ask you."
Bridal asked casually, "What's the problem?"
Chao Bufan pondered for a moment, then said, "Do you know about the skill of magical summoning?"
“I know!” Bridal was the first to answer, looking puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
"Then who among you can summon magic?" Chao Bufan asked again.
"Pfft!" Bridal chuckled and said, "Bufan, don't joke around. How could we possibly know such advanced magic?"
Fenrit exclaimed in surprise, "Bufan, you've been at the academy for a month now, don't you know?"
Chao Bufan shook his head and said, "Tell me about it."
Bridal and the others exchanged glances. Then, Bridal said, "Advanced skills like summoning magic are beyond the reach of people our age. The academy explicitly states that only archmages and above are qualified to learn advanced magic like summoning. After all, as you know, there are advantages and disadvantages in learning magic. The more advanced the magic, the more magic power it consumes. If the user uses it improperly, they will suffer a backlash from the magic itself, resulting in anything from minor injury to death. This is undeniable. Therefore, with our current level of magic, we don't even dare to think about those advanced spells. We might even die before we can cast them."
Upon hearing this, Chao Bufan nodded, but Fenrit immediately asked him, "Bufan, why are you asking this?"
Chao Bufan smiled slightly and said, "It's nothing, I was just asking."
Doslu exclaimed in surprise, "Extraordinary! You don't actually know this magic, do you?"
Chao Bufan shook his head and said, "If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you." He hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Do you know what kind of beings the magic summoning skill can usually summon?"
"I'm not entirely sure," said Bridal. "However, I once read some records about magical summoning in the library. The records said that under normal circumstances, summoning magic can summon certain creatures within a certain range and make them serve the summoner. High-level summoning magic can also summon some powerful beings."
Chao Bufan nodded, then suddenly remembered something and asked, "By the way, why doesn't our academy have any dedicated magic summoners?"
Curry said, "The academy originally had specialized magic summoners and dedicated courses. But for some reason, the students kept making mistakes and encountering problems when practicing summoning spells. They either used the spells improperly or failed to control them properly, which led to many students suffering from magical backlash and becoming unable to practice magic anymore. For the safety of the students, the academy canceled the course. From that time on, the academy stipulated that no one who is not at the level of a Grand Magister is allowed to learn summoning magic."
Chao Bufan nodded and said, "No wonder I've been here for so long and never heard of summoning magic or anything like that. So that's how it is."
“I’ve also heard that summoning spells don’t always produce the desired result. Otherwise, those students who were crippled wouldn’t have left with such resentment,” Bridal said.
Chao Bufan smiled and asked, "Brido, what did you just tell me? Where do you want me to go with you?"
“Oh, I was thinking of taking you somewhere, do you want to come?” Bridal asked.
"Where to?" Chao Bufan asked casually.
“It’s a fun place, you’ll see when you get there,” Bridal showed off his connections.
“Bufan, don’t listen to him,” Fenrit immediately stepped forward. “This guy is definitely up to no good. Don’t fall for his tricks.”
"You know?" Brido tilted his head, staring at him with a surprised expression.
