Chapter 328 Shock
Chapter 328 Shock
Perhaps the heavens truly heard their prayers and, out of compassion, sent down a celestial being. The celestial being commanded his mount, a white dragon, to fight the evil dragon in the desert for three days and three nights, finally killing the evil dragon. The celestial being then moved a great mountain from elsewhere and placed the evil dragon's corpse beneath it, thus bringing peace to the surrounding villagers. Unfortunately, after slaying the evil dragon, the white dragon also lost its precious life.
Later, to commemorate the white dragon, the villagers named the mountain Bailong Mountain, and that's how Bailong Mountain got its name.
However, no one has ever questioned or investigated whether these rumors are true or false.
Bailong Mountain is significantly higher than Tulong Mountain in terms of altitude, but due to its climate, it remains covered in white ice year-round, from its mid-slope upwards, especially at the summit where the thick ice layer can reach depths of tens of meters. Therefore, this mountain is also rarely visited by humans.
However, atop Bailong Mountain, a solitary thatched hut seemed quite out of place in this bleak world. Despite the swirling snow and wind, it remained as steadfast as Mount Tai, its door tightly shut.
Inside the thatched hut, a hunched old man with white hair and beard sat cross-legged in the center of the room, his eyes closed, already in a meditative state.
Suddenly, Charlie appeared behind the old man like a ghost. His face was solemn, and he stood respectfully behind the old man with a look of awe, without saying a word.
Half an hour later, the old man finally raised an eyebrow and said, "Didn't I tell you? Don't come looking for me again."
Seeing that the old man had finally spoken, Charlie secretly breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said respectfully, "Sir, Charlie did not mean to offend you. In fact, I have important business to discuss. Charlie has found out the whereabouts of the Bible."
"Huh?" The old man's eyes lit up immediately. He quickly turned around, sat cross-legged, and asked, "Really?"
Charlie said, "Yes, sir. Not long ago, someone put many valuable items from the Goshawk up for auction, so Charlie guesses that the Bible must be in this person's hands."
Upon hearing this, the old man frowned, thinking to himself: Is that so? After a moment's thought, he asked, "Do you know how he found the Swift Walker?"
Charlie shook his head and said, "Charlie doesn't know. He only saw some photos posted online, saying they were being auctioned off. On the day of the auction, Charlie was there. The items auctioned were indeed treasures stolen from various countries many years ago."
The old man nodded and then asked, "Have you found out whether the Bible is actually in this person's possession?"
Charlie replied, "I did investigate, but this person is a cultivator whose cultivation level is far above Charlie's. Moreover, there are several other cultivators with him. Charlie doesn't dare to act recklessly, so I came here specifically to inform the old gentleman."
The old man frowned slightly and said, "So, the Bible must be in this man's hands."
Charlie thinks so too.
The old man picked up the white cane beside him and stood up. Although he looked very old, he exuded an air of otherworldly grace.
"The Bible is an ancient sacred object, not something an ordinary person can possess. Your master and I have been searching for its whereabouts, wanting to see what secrets it holds. Now that we finally have news of the Bible, how can I stand idly by? Charlie, where is your master? Why didn't he come?"
"Sir, my master is currently in a critical period of seclusion and cannot leave. He previously said that if he sees you, he should convey his greetings to you!"
The old man nodded and said, "He lives a leisurely life, and has been in seclusion for many years."
Charlie smiled slightly and said, "Old sir, you have the air of a Taoist immortal and have long since transcended worldly concerns. How could my master compare to you? My master once casually told me that if I don't work harder, I'm afraid I'll be left far behind by you."
The old man chuckled and said, "It's a good thing he still remembers me. Our friendship over the past decades has not been in vain."
"The friendship between the old gentleman and my teacher is higher than the sky and deeper than the sea. My teacher once said that in his whole life, apart from you, the old gentleman, he has no other close friend."
The old man smiled slightly and said, "I am no different! Charlie, do you know how he found Swiftwalker?"
Charlie shook his head and said, "Charlie doesn't know."
The old man sighed, "Alas! Countries all over the world are digging deep, trying to find this vanished Swift Traveler. Even I, who have sailed countless times, never expected that he would get such a windfall. Charlie, have you informed your master yet?"
Charlie said, "Sir, my master is currently in seclusion, and I dare not disturb him, so I did not inform him."
The old man smiled and said, "Just inform him and tell him the news of the Bible's publication. Such a sacred object can only be studied by the two of us together."
Upon hearing this, Charlie hesitated for a moment, then said, "Yes, sir."
After a moment, Charlie said, "Sir, I have already informed my master..."
Before he could finish speaking, Charlie exclaimed in alarm, "Oh no, something's happened!"
The old man hurriedly asked, "What happened?"
A flash of anger crossed Charlie's face as he said, "Sir, that man sent a signal saying... saying that all my people have been killed by him."
The old man nodded and said, "Then let's hurry up and go! I'm becoming more and more interested in this person."
The two transformed into a burst of light and disappeared from the room.
Tang Group.
Chao Bufan arrived at the conference room. Not long after, Lao Tang and others, as well as the heads of the eight major cultivation families and all the elders, arrived one after another. After a brief greeting, Chao Bufan said, "Lao Tang, Manager Sun is dead."
Old Tang exclaimed in shock, "What? Old Sun is dead?"
Chao Bufan gave a bitter smile and said, "Yes, he died in his office."
Su Wenlong exclaimed in surprise, "Died in his own office? Unbelievable, what exactly happened? How could he just suddenly..."
Chao Bufan frowned slightly, a sly glint in his eyes, and said, "He was killed by Qiao Ben."
"Joben? You mean that...where's Joeben?"
"I've already taken care of it. These people first disrupted the entire network system of our Tang Group, and then entered the company. If I'm not mistaken, they wanted to get the company's underground floor plan from Manager Sun. Manager Sun refused to give it to them, which is why they attacked him."
"Oh no!" Old Tang exclaimed, "Old Sun's family is in danger!"
Chao Bufan said, "I've already sent people to rescue them, Lao Tang. Right now, the most urgent thing is to reel in what we've already cast. Here's what we'll do: you and the four army commanders should hurry to that abandoned factory at the foot of Ma Luan Mountain, the same factory where we previously raided the four major gangs. There's a storage room downstairs in the factory; everything is there. Patriarch He, the people from your eight families should follow this old chief Murong to wipe out their remaining forces. Anyone involved with drugs should be killed without exception."
