Chapter 209 Don't you know that sleeping on the ground is damp?
The elderly male beastman who came with Granny Tian said, "I am the chieftain of the Black and White Bear clan. My name is Yuan. Our tribe's leader is my son. He is not in the tribe right now. He has gone out hunting with a hunting party and will not be back until tomorrow. Can you tell me about him first?"
Yao glanced at Lin Ni, and seeing her nod, he said, "Okay."
The old woman then interjected, "Let's not talk here at the door. Let us find you a room to sit down and talk."
Chief Black and White Bear nodded: "Zhuzhu is right. How many beastmen do you have in total? Let me see where it would be appropriate to arrange them."
Linni thought for a moment before answering, "I have eleven companions."
Grandma Tian Tian asked in surprise, "The little female already has so many partners?!"
Linni was a little embarrassed: "No, they are just my companions, they brought us from the Beast Carving Tribe."
Grandma Tiantian was clearly relieved and nodded, saying, "Oh, I see. That's good."
Tian Tian knew that the old woman was worried about her life after getting married, but she was also afraid that the old woman would ask more questions, so she quickly said, "Grandpa, please lead the way. Lin has been standing here for so long, she must be tired. My little house doesn't even have a stone stool."
Grandma Zhu nudged the Black and White Bear Chieftain and nodded, saying, "That's right! Females are the most delicate, so find him a spacious house."
Chief Black and White Bear smiled and nodded, saying, "Alright, we'll listen to Zhuzhu and find the most spacious room." After he finished speaking, he said to Lin Ni and the other two, "Please come with me."
Linni and Yao held hands, with Tiantian linking arms with Linni's. Yan followed beside Yao, walking up the mountain with the Black and White Bear clan chief, who was Tiantian's grandparents. Linni thought to herself: Even when their hair is gray, he still loves and cherishes her like this—this is truly the most romantic thing in the world. She had heard a song somewhere before, the lyrics of which went: "The most romantic thing I can imagine is growing old with you, until we're too old to go anywhere, and you still treat me like a treasure in your palm."
At that moment, she felt that the lyrics were so beautiful, just like the two elderly people in front of her.
Along the way, they saw many orcs going up and down, greeting each other whenever they met. Most were older orcs with a group of cubs, but there were also quite a few young, single males. The orcs here all had black hair, black eyes, and yellow skin, which made Linni feel particularly close to them.
Walking across the terraced fields, Grandma Zhuzhu introduced Linni to the Bear Beast Tribe: her first mate was the chief of the Black and White Bear Clan, and the leader of the entire Bear Beast Tribe was their cub; Tiantian's mother was their daughter. However, they didn't use terms like "uncle" or "aunt." Here, the males of the grandfather generation were all called "Grandpa"; the females of the grandmother generation were all called "Grandma"; only the mother's mother was called "Grandma"; and the males of the father generation, except for the father, were all called "Uncle"; the females of the mother generation, except for the mother, were called "Aunt"; and the peers were more specifically distinguished: "Brother" and "Sister."
In addition, the Bear Beast Tribe consists of several hunting teams composed of strong and powerful mid-to-high-level male beastmen, who take turns hunting every three days to meet the tribe's meat needs. Their other food is grown within the tribe; they only need to guard against wandering beastmen intruding. Their tribe faces three major dangers: the threat of wandering beastmen, the dangers of hunting, and the need to trade for salt. The Bear Beast Tribe does not produce salt; they must travel to the vast North Sea to trade for it. The journey from the Bear Beast Tribe is long and fraught with danger, and many beastmen die there every year. Aside from these three dangers, the beastmen of the Bear Beast Tribe can be said to be well-fed, clothed, and living in peace and contentment.
Linni felt that this Bear Beast Tribe was a paradise in the rainforest—yes, there were peach orchards outside the tribe, and they loved farming. This Bear Beast Tribe truly deserved to be the home of black and white bears! If they could raise their own livestock, wouldn't they never have to leave the tribe? But then again, isolationism is not a good sign.
The group left the singles dormitory area. The Black and White Bear Chief carried his mate on his back, and Yao carried Lin Ni. They walked for another ten minutes or so before stopping in front of two adjacent stone houses near the top of the mountain. The Black and White Bear Chief then put down the old woman, and Yao followed suit by putting down Lin Ni.
The Black and White Bear chieftain led them into the house and said to the old woman, "Isn't this house spacious enough? This is where my younger brother is planning to move in in a few days. Is it alright if Tian Tian and his future partner stay for a few days?"
Grandma Zhu nodded in satisfaction: "Great, this place is perfect." After she finished speaking, she said to Lin Ni: "There are three small rooms in this house, and three more rooms in the next room. It's very spacious. Nowhere else has so many rooms. And there aren't many empty rooms. It's perfect because their family hasn't moved down yet. The woman still thinks she's young and doesn't want to live in the senior living area."
The black and white bear chieftain said, "I knew you'd been thinking about this place."
The two old people joked around as Linni and Yao toured the house. It resembled a rural dwelling, with a main hall upon entering, furnished with a large round table and ten wooden stools. To the left was a large kitchen, presumably for storing ingredients and firewood, complete with a large stove and an earthenware pot on top. Behind the kitchen was another room, and to the right of the main hall were two more rooms. Each room had shelves and straw huts. Linni found it odd: They seemed backward, building a four-bedroom house with a pot, table, stools, and shelves; yet, they were also advanced, not knowing to make a bed? Why sleep in straw huts on the ground? Didn't they know it was damp?
The group sat down around the table. Lin Ni, posing as the Beast God's Messenger, introduced herself and her partner: she was the Beast God's Messenger, Yao was the Phoenix, and Yan was the guardian beastman of the Ten Thousand Cliffs, possessing the bloodline of the Vermilion Bird. She then explained their group's purpose, their activation of the Vermilion Bird Stele in the Eagle Beast Tribe, and briefly recounted their attack by wandering beastmen in the Rainforest Swamp. They were now waiting for the other group to arrive at the Bear Beast Tribe before heading to the Azure Dragon Stele together.
Chief Black and White Bear, along with Granny and Tian Tian, were all deeply shocked by Lin Ni's words. Chief Black and White Bear looked at the high-level natural female and the two level-nine flying beastmen before him and asked with some skepticism, "Beast God's messenger Lin, and the divine bird Phoenix Yao, and the guardian beastman Yan, did the Beast God give you a divine oracle to do these things?"
