Chapter 72 Methods of Summoning a Partner
Chapter 72 Methods of Summoning a Partner
Feng told Linni that he couldn't accompany her tomorrow. Yang planned to gather the tribes participating in the trade fair tomorrow to explain the situation of the Cursed Land, so that they could travel together. Then, he would organize the strongmen of each tribe to clean up the Cursed Land. After all, the area of the towering mountains was too large, and if they relied on their Tiger Beast Tribe located in the far west to clean it up, they would waste too much time on the road.
These were all important matters concerning the survival of the beastmen, so Linni couldn't say anything and simply nodded and said, "Okay."
No one asked her who she wanted to accompany her tomorrow. It wasn't until she was lying in bed that Lin Ni said in Yao's arms, "Yao, I want you to come with me to pray for blessings tomorrow."
She made this decision because she thought about what happened under the stone tablet before, and that it would help Yao level up faster. But she didn't know what they were thinking.
Yao nodded and said, "Okay."
Feng's presence was too strong; Lin Ni felt a little awkward around him. She wanted to chat with Yao and Ye, but she was afraid Feng would think she was deliberately ignoring him. Talking to Feng—she couldn't find anything to talk about. Feng had spent two days with Lin Ni during her period, but aside from carrying her, there was no physical intimacy. Compared to her intimacy with Yao and Ye, she felt very cold towards Feng. But this wasn't her intention; she had genuinely fallen for him before. Feng didn't talk much and didn't actively try to get close to her. Lin Ni felt she didn't know how to interact with Feng; there was a strange sense of distance between them. Her interactions with Feng weren't even as natural as with Bai. Because Bai wasn't yet her partner, he hadn't participated in the previous round of rest at home, but Bai was cheerful and talkative, and he would actively approach her. Although there was no physical intimacy, she didn't feel the same awkwardness she felt with Feng. She didn't know how to break the distance between her and Feng, so she lost the desire to speak, closed her eyes, and slowly drifted off to sleep in meditation.
When Lin Ni participated in the prayer event for the third time, she finally learned the name of the elderly woman—Yi. Lin Ni went up to thank Yi for reminding her of the previous two times.
With a loving smile on her face, Yi touched Linni's head with her old, withered hand and said to her, "Young woman, the future of the tribe depends on you."
Lin Ni said shyly, "Yi, I don't actually know anything about this."
Yi smiled meaningfully: "It's good that you don't understand, it's better that you don't understand."
During her prayer, Linni entered that introspective state again. She carefully sensed the flow of red light and noticed that while most of it flowed towards Yao's flame mark, a small amount also flowed to Ye and Feng's partner marks. Then, she sensed faint wisps of white light besides the red light. As the white light flowed, Linni discovered it originated from Feng and Ye's partner marks, silently nourishing her body. So this was the mutual support between partners? They had both leveled up after becoming partners with her, and this was how their power flowed through their partner marks?
She was tempted to give their power to Yao, hoping it would allow Yao to level up quickly. Without hesitation, she began trying to guide the white light towards the flame mark. Unfortunately, she overestimated herself and failed several times. By the end of the blessing ceremony, she hadn't been able to change the flow of the white light; instead, she had caused it to flicker erratically several times.
This time, the prayer did not bring any blessings from the stone tablet, and Lin Ni didn't know whether to feel sorry or relieved. As usual, Hui came over to invite Lin Ni to go down the mountain together, but Yao smiled and declined, saying that they wanted to stay under the stone tablet a little longer, so Hui had to go down the mountain by herself.
Linni looked at Yao curiously, wondering what he was up to. After everyone left, Yao suddenly shone with a red light and leveled up to level five. Linni was overjoyed for him: "Yao, you leveled up! That's great!"
Yao smiled at her: "I know Xiao Ni has been working very hard in her cultivation lately, thank you for your hard work!"
Lin Ni shook her head: "It's not tiring at all! I want you to come with me to the Beast God Stele to pray for blessings from now on. I think the effect of praying here is better!" As Yao nodded, Lin Ni asked again: "Actually, I wonder if I can come here when it's not a prayer meeting?"
Yao: "After we go down the mountain, let's ask Mei. I feel that if I reach level seven, I'll be able to cultivate on my own."
Linni hugged his arm: "Let's cultivate together!"
The two walked happily down the mountain. After collecting the salt, Linni asked Mei if they could come to the Beast God Stele to pray for blessings. Mei happily replied, "Of course! The tribe strongly encourages females to come to the Beast God Stele to meditate and cultivate every day. However, if we force everyone to come every day, no one will agree. It would be best if you could come voluntarily!"
Linni asked, "Do other females come here regularly?"
Mei nodded: "I only come when I have time. Yi is here every morning. There are usually about ten females here every morning. They are all very ambitious young females. Some female beasts also come. There are fewer people in the afternoon."
Linni nodded and smiled, "I understand, thank you, beautiful!"
Lin Ni said goodbye to Mei, refusing her offer to eat at her cave. Just as she turned to go home, she saw a huge black-striped, yellow-maned tiger leaping towards her from afar. It appeared on the hilltop and in a few strides was right in front of her. Before her brain could even react, the tiger transformed into Feng and pulled her tightly into his arms. The speed was so fast it almost hurt her back! Then Feng released her, and Lin Ni saw that he was covered in sweat, his face ashen, looking her up and down with fear and anxiety. His voice trembled as he asked, "Lin, are you alright?"
Lin Ni looked at him blankly: "What could possibly be wrong with me?"
Feng checked her over and over again before finally relaxing.
"Feng, what happened?" Lin Ni asked, puzzled.
Feng swallowed hard and tried to speak calmly, "I was hunting with the tribe to prepare for tonight's bonfire party when I suddenly felt you calling me. I thought something had happened to you."
"I am here, summoning you?" Linni wanted to say, "I didn't!" Then she remembered that she seemed to have stimulated Feng's companion mark when she was praying, and saw Feng nod affirmatively. Linni closed her eyes to recall that state, then focused her consciousness on the black-striped yellow tiger on her left arm, opened her eyes and asked, "Is this how it is?"
Feng pursed his lips and nodded: "Yes. You can summon me this way whenever you need anything."
Lin Ni glanced at Feng guiltily, not daring to tell him that she had actually intended to give their power to Yao Cai by accident. She explained weakly, "I'm sorry, Feng! I didn't know! Today, while I was praying, I suddenly noticed white light flowing from your partner seal, so I wanted to see what it was."
