Chapter 11 What is the Beast Form of Night?
Linni was worried that Ye would attack the two white tigers again, so she said to Bai Shu, "Bai Shu, go and get me some food, I'm hungry."
"Huh?" Bai Shu lowered his guard and tilted his head to look at Lin Ni.
Linni guessed they must have come looking for them last night. The sounds she heard in the middle of the night weren't her imagination; they had clearly been beaten up by Night last night, and none of them were a match for him. Was Night really that strong? She knew Night was jealous; perhaps there were females and wild beasts together in this world, otherwise he wouldn't have said that last night.
She pointed to the large pond and said to Bai Shu with a smile, "Catch me a fish, I didn't get to eat any yesterday."
She spoke the national language of China with the white tigers. After living with them for about ten days, they could basically understand her, only needing to gesture when some new words appeared.
Bai Zhu looked at the water, then jumped in to catch fish.
Bai Ji glanced at the night, then turned and left.
Night fell, and Linni was held in her arms. "What were you saying to them? Why can't I understand?"
Linni held onto Ye's two strong arms that were wrapped around her and whispered to him, "They saved my life and took care of me for a long time. Please don't hit them, okay?"
After thinking for a moment, Ye saw that the two white tigers had returned and warned them, "You are not allowed to lick Lin anymore, and you are not allowed to have any intimate contact that is allowed between partners, or I will kill you!"
The two white tigers clearly dared not speak their anger, but Lin Ni was already attracted by the backpack that Bai Ji was holding in his mouth. She happily ran over and took it from him: "Bai Ji, thank you!"
Linni opened her bag and found everything she had brought to this world was still there, including the clothes she had washed and dried earlier, and the crossbody bag she had made from animal hide. She reached out and touched Baiji: "You're so kind!"
Linni turned around and saw Ye still looking at the two white tigers warily. She began to direct the three males—one human and two beasts—to build a stove and gather firewood for her. Linni chose a dry, shady spot under a tree, built two stoves, one to boil water in a lunchbox, and the other to cook fish fillets in shellfish. She also asked Baizhu to find some fruit to add to the pot. Linni sat on the animal skins the white tigers had brought—they must have brought everything from their cave down; they were determined to live with her.
Lin Ni taught Ye how to use a folding knife to thinly slice the fish, boil it in water, and then immediately spoon it onto the lid of her lunchbox while she waited to eat with chopsticks. Bai Zhu and Bai Ji found her various fruits, added firewood, grilled the fish, boiled water, and so on. While enjoying her breakfast, she pondered what Ye had said to the white tigers. They were level three, and Ye had previously said he was level six, so a level three white tiger couldn't defeat a level six. But what did he mean by calling them useless male beasts who couldn't transform into human form? Did a male beast transform into a male human? Wait—what did Ye say about male and female humans? It felt so strange. Was this... this the legendary beastman world? At that moment, her years of honed reading comprehension skills suddenly returned, and many of the strange words Ye had spoken that she hadn't quite understood suddenly transformed into information that flooded her mind.
She mechanically turned to look at the night, tentatively asking, "What is the beast form of the night?"
Night glanced at her somewhat embarrassedly and said in a low voice, "I am a snake-beastman."
Snake, beast, man! Lin Ni clutched her short skirt tightly—so, what she was wearing was his snake slough. She had thought the dark patterns on it were just fabric designs, but it turned out to be his snake scales! So, why did she feel afraid when she saw his eyes! So, it was this damned Ye who dragged her out of the water and threw her into the air! The thought of that giant python flying towards her from the water sent shivers down her spine! Ye saw her face turn pale and reached out to support her shoulder, only to see goosebumps rise all over her arms, and even the fine hairs on her skin stood on end. He said softly with heartache, "Lin, don't be afraid, I won't hurt you."
Hearing him say this, Linni's eyes immediately filled with tears: "You dragged me out of the water and threw me into the air! When I saw that giant python flying towards me from the water, I thought I was going to be eaten by it! Waaah—"
Night hugged her tightly: "I'm sorry, I just saw you having so much fun and wanted to play with you too."
Linni hugged him and kept hitting his back: "You scared me to death, you know? I almost died from your fear! Waaaaah..."
Ye looked at Lin Ni, somewhat at a loss. Although she had said before that she was frightened, he really hadn't expected her to be so badly frightened. He could only say again and again, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, the Beast God will protect you..."
Upon hearing Lin Ni's words, Bai Shu and Bai Ji began to growl at Ye again, baring their teeth. Ye looked up and glared at them fiercely, and they stopped. Lin Ni lifted her head from his arms, choking back tears, and said, "You're not allowed to bully them." She even hiccuped as she spoke.
Night lowered his head to kiss away her tears and said softly, "Don't cry, I don't want you to cry."
Lin Ni's tears, which she had almost stopped, started falling again. This was the first time she had cried since coming into this world, the first time she had let her emotions run wild. After accidentally falling off a mountain, she inexplicably arrived in this world, enduring her fear of the unknown, living alone for more than ten days (although she had the company of two white tigers, she was ultimately all alone). Although she appeared happy, exploring unknown territories everywhere, her longing for her original world, her yearning for her family, and the fear of possibly growing old alone in the forest tormented her deep within her heart. Faced with Ye's gentle comfort, she finally broke down. This seemingly very strong man, while frightening her, also made her unconsciously want to get closer to him. Only by receiving his affection, his care, and his protection could she finally relax and no longer live in fear.
Linni cried in Ye's arms for a long time, and Ye gently stroked her back, whispering words of comfort. The two white tigers seemed to sense that something was wrong with her and watched her silently from the side.
When Linni wiped away her tears, she realized that Ye was completely soaked, his chest hair clinging to his body, damp with tears. Embarrassed, she turned away. Seriously, snakes don't have any hair on their bodies, so how could he have such thick chest hair? Linni awkwardly got up and walked to the lake, scooping up water to wash her face, her body still involuntarily gasping for breath. She saw her reflection in the water—her eyes red and swollen—and thought, "How ugly I look!"
