Chapter 630: Forced Engagement; Lin Zhuxi: “Shameless”
Chapter 630: Forced Engagement; Lin Zhuxi: “Shameless”
Simon's public declaration of love for Wen Li became known to everyone in Country M. Lin Zhuxi knew that her parents must have seen it, but she still forwarded the report to her parents personally.
Her parents did not reply to her on the phone. A few days later, her mother called her and told her that she had to go home.
In the evening, Lin Zhuxi returned to his parents' home from the company and saw his mother entertaining Simon. The two were talking and chatting in the living room.
Lin's mother: "Zhuxi is back."
Seeing Simon, Lin Zhuxi's already cold expression turned even colder. He asked his mother indifferently, "What's the matter with calling me back?"
Seeing that Lin Zhuxi ignored Simon, Lin's mother reminded her in Chinese with a hint of displeasure: "Why don't you say hello to others?"
Lin Zhuxi didn't come closer: "He is your guest."
Lin's mother didn't reveal much in front of Simon. Fortunately, Simon didn't understand, so Lin's mother didn't worry too much about it.
She looked at Lin Zhuxi, who was dressed in a professional suit, and said, "Your clothes are ready. Go upstairs and change first. Then go to your father's study and ask your father and Mr. Hudson to come down for dinner. I have something important to tell you later."
"I'm not staying home tonight, so I won't change my clothes. There's nothing wrong with what I'm wearing." Lin Zhuxi said and turned to go upstairs.
Mother Lin frowned slightly.
Soon, Lin's father and Simon's father came downstairs.
Lin Zhuxi followed behind the two of them.
Seeing Simon and his son here, Lin Zhuxi anticipated something. Sure enough, his parents and Hudson discussed the marriage between the two families at the dinner table and directly agreed on the engagement date.
After they discussed everything, they finally remembered the two parties involved, so Lin's mother asked symbolically, "What do you think of this day?" This was more like a notification.
Simon, who was still eating, responded to Lin's mother with a standard polite social smile, but did not say anything. It was unclear whether he had no opinion or was silently throwing the question to Lin Zhuxi.
Lin Zhuxi said in English: "Not very good."
Several people looked at her.
Simon smiled again. He covered his mouth with his wine glass, and there was a hint of anticipation in his eyes.
The faint smile on Lin's mother's face faded, and she asked, "Are you dissatisfied with any arrangements at the engagement party?"
Lin Zhuxi met the gazes of the three elders and said directly with a blank expression: "I am not satisfied with the fiancé you arranged."
Lin Zhuxi: "Even though you knew you were going to marry into my Lin family, you still publicly expressed your love for another woman in front of the media reporters. Is this the good destination you found for me? You're so unimportant and yet you're still pursuing me. I, Lin Zhuxi, am not that worthless. You're willing to lower your stance, but I'm not."
Simon's public declaration of love for Wen Li was undoubtedly a slap in the face of the Lin family, and the media made a lot of ridicule. However, his parents acted as if nothing had happened, so Lin Zhuxi simply brought the matter to the table.
Father Lin warned in a deep voice, "Zhuxi, this is a matter between two families, not your personal matter. Don't be so careless."
Subtext: This is a marriage, and the interests of both families should be given priority. It is not a love affair where you should worry about superficial love.
Simon, who had always been like an outsider, received his father's hint and promised halfheartedly: "I will restrain myself in the future." After he said that, he remembered to put down the wine glass and sat up slightly to make his promise seem more sincere.
This promise was just for show, but at least it was an attitude that Lin's father and mother could accept. However, Lin Zhuxi didn't buy it.
Lin Zhuxi didn't even look at Simon. In front of Hudson, he rejected his parents for the last time, "I've always been very clear. I won't get engaged. If you don't mind looking bad, you can put a gun to my head and tie me up to the engagement. Otherwise, you have no other chance of success."
After Lin Zhuxi finished speaking, he stood up and was about to leave without caring about his parents' expressions.
Father Lin slammed his chopsticks on the table and said, "Stop."
Lin Zhuxi paused, but not because he was forced by his father, but because he had something else to say: "By the way, let me use my long-term business perspective to remind you two not to be too anxious. The DuPont family has been in turmoil recently. They have offended the chairman of the Lu Group."
Lin Zhuxi continued to speak English for Simon and his son to hear.
The DuPont family had recently been embroiled in internal strife. Lin's parents had heard rumors that Chairman Lu was behind the scenes. Soon after, Simon publicly displayed his affection, and Lin's parents approached Hudson to inquire about the situation. Hudson explained that his younger brother, Landon, was the cause, and apologized for Simon's affairs, dismissing his romantic affairs as "nonsense." He then urged a marriage between the two families.
Lin's parents guessed Hudson's desire to get married. They didn't refuse, thinking that once the engagement was finalized, they would act as a go-between, mediating the relationship between Hudson and his son and Chairman Lu, thus directly thwarting Langdon's extravagant ambitions.
How could they have imagined that it was Hudson who asked Simon to express his love for Wen Li in public, and he even brought a valuable gift with him.
If Wen Li was moved by the 8% of the DuPont family business that Simon offered, the Lin family would no longer be in trouble.
Hudson is eating from the bowl while looking at the pot, grabbing it with both hands at the same time, for fear of losing both the watermelon and the sesame seeds.
Father Lin said forcefully, "Stay home tonight."
"Stop disturbing you." Lin Zhuxi left gracefully.
Hudson: "Simon, go see Miss Lin off."
Simon stood up slowly and walked out of the restaurant.
Lin Zhuxi walked into the living room, picked up her bag from the sofa, and prepared to leave. Simon walked over with his hands in his trouser pockets and said casually, "To be honest, I don't want to get engaged anymore. I didn't understand why Miss Lin refused to accept this marriage, which was clearly a win-win situation. Now I understand. So for Miss Lin's own sake, why don't you find a way to help me?"
Lin Zhuxi, who was about to leave, turned and looked at Simon.
Simon smiled and walked closer to Lin Zhuxi, saying, "You have such a good relationship with Miss Wen, so think of a way to help me pursue her."
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhuxi sneered, his face full of sarcasm.
His eyes also quietly turned cold.
Simon said sincerely, "I really like her. As long as Miss Lin helps me, I can make my father accept her, definitely. Then Miss Lin, you will be free."
Lin Zhuxi was furious: "How dare you do that?"
Lin Zhuxi caught a glimpse of his parents and Hudson coming out of the restaurant, and he raised his hand and slapped Simon hard in the face.
She shouted, "Shameless."
Then he turned and left.
Lin Zhuxi had wanted to give this slap for a long time.
Lin's mother walked over quickly, her eyes full of concern: "What's going on?" She then looked at Lin Zhuxi's back with a reproachful look.
Simon poked his painful and numb cheek with the tip of his tongue, smiled, and said magnanimously, "I'm fine, Ms. Lin."
How could he say that he asked Lin Zhuxi to help him pursue another woman? Lin Zhuxi was sure that he would be too embarrassed to say it, so she slapped him in front of everyone without hesitation.
