Chapter 1399 Crying
Chapter 1399 Crying
Lin Yiwan raised her hand and patted her head: "Are you silly? Doesn't your aunt know how important they are to you? Your aunt never believed that Meng Xiang would commit such a heinous crime of embezzlement. Now that the truth has been found out, naturally I have to protect them!"
Princess Youyi's eyes reddened, and she murmured softly, "It's a pity I can't see them off. Now that they're heading to Lingnan, it'll be very difficult to meet them again!"
Lin Yiwan gently comforted him, "It's not difficult. Father has given Prime Minister Meng a three-year deadline to make some achievements. Whether he succeeds or not, he will be allowed to return to the capital with Madam Meng to report on his duties after three years!"
Princess Youyi burst into tears of joy: "Really?"
Lin Yiwan couldn't help but chuckle: "How could your aunt lie to you? Three years isn't hard to get through; you'll all be reunited eventually!"
Princess Youyi reached out and hugged her, murmuring, "Aunt, you're the best!"
Lin Yiwan looked at her with tenderness. In her eyes, even though Princess Youyi had become a mother, she was still as lovable as a child.
She was very pleased to see how well she had raised Mo Ziyu.
She said indulgently, "Now that we're back in the capital, why don't you tidy up your princess residence and stay there for a while longer?"
Princess Youyi lifted her head from her arms: "Aunt, do you despise me?"
Lin Yiwan protested, "No way! I was just afraid that you and Ziyu would suffer if you lived in the small courtyard of the Marquis of Zhanyi's mansion!"
Princess Youyi raised an eyebrow; "Then I won't leave. Besides, I want Mo Ziyu to stay in the capital to study. He's too naughty in Jingcheng. His father is too busy with government affairs and doesn't have time to discipline him. I'm worried he'll go astray, so I can only bring him back to the capital for you and your uncle to teach him!"
Lin Yiwan's heart stirred slightly. Although she was very happy that Princess Youyi had returned to the capital and moved into the Zhanyi Marquis's residence, she would not allow her to leave Jingcheng after being wronged.
She asked instinctively, "Youyi, you and Ling Yue didn't have a fight, did you?"
Upon hearing this, Princess Youyi's smile faded slightly. She sat up straight from Lin Yiwan's embrace, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the doll tied to her waist. The jade pendant was carved by Mo Lingyue himself, with her small characters engraved on it, and the edges had been worn smooth and warm.
She lowered her eyes, her voice soft, tinged with an indescribable melancholy: "A quarrel? Aunt, there's nothing quarreling between him and me."
Lin Yiwan's heart tightened, and she reached out to grasp her wrist, her fingertips touching something slightly cool.
She knew Youyi too well. With her proud and bright personality, she would never act like this if nothing was wrong.
“Youyi,” Lin Yiwan softened her voice, “If there’s anything wrong, don’t keep it to yourself. Tell your aunt. Did that boy Ling Yue bully you? Just tell me, and your aunt will stand up for you.”
Princess Youyi looked up at her, her eyes slightly red, but she stubbornly held back her tears.
She sniffed and laughed self-deprecatingly: "He didn't bully me, it's just that I can't understand it. The sea breeze in Jingcheng has been blowing for three years, making me feel uneasy. He is the city lord of Jingcheng, and he carries the safety of thousands of people on his shoulders. I understand, and I have never resented him."
She paused, her voice tinged with grievance, "But Aunt, he only cares about military affairs, about those memorials and the common people. On my birthday, he was on patrol outside the city and missed the banquet; I caught a cold and had a high fever that wouldn't go down, while he was dealing with sudden military emergencies in the camp. He only rushed back to the mansion to see me once I recovered."
“I know he had no choice, but I am also a woman. I also want a husband by my side, I want to talk to him, and I want to be able to run into his arms and cry when I am wronged.” Youyi’s voice grew softer and softer.
She said sadly, "Ziyu is growing up day by day, and he always pesters me to ask when his father can fly kites with him, when his father can teach him to ride horses and shoot arrows. Every time, I can only coax him and say that his father is busy and will play with him when he is done."
"But this wait lasted for three years."
Lin Yiwan felt a pang of sadness upon hearing this, and reached out to pull her back into her arms, gently patting her back: "Silly child, why didn't you say so sooner after suffering such a great injustice?"
Youyi buried her face in Lin Yiwan's shoulder, finally unable to hold back her tears, which soaked Lin Yiwan's clothes: "I don't want my aunt to worry, nor do I want people to say that I am immature. As the city lord of Jingcheng, he is doing this for the stability of the country. If I make a scene, wouldn't I become a burden to him?"
“But I’m really tired, Aunt.” She choked up. “I brought Ziyu back to the capital not out of spite, but because I wanted to rest. I wanted Ziyu to study in the capital, learn to read and write, and grow up to be a well-mannered person. I also wanted to get away from military affairs and have a few peaceful days.”
Lin Yiwan sighed and raised her hand to wipe away the tears on her face: "Silly girl, you should have told me sooner. It's good to stay in the capital. The Marquis of Zhanyi's mansion will always be your home. I will personally arrange Ziyu's studies and invite the best teachers in the capital for him. As for you, just settle down and relax. Your aunt will accompany you to enjoy the flowers and drink tea. Put all those worries behind you."
Princess Youyi nodded, but her tears flowed even more fiercely. She knew that her aunt truly cared for her, and the Marquis of Zhanyi's mansion was her eternal refuge.
Just then, footsteps came from outside the door, followed by Mo Ziyu's shouts: "Mother! Mother! Zhan Xiaobai and I are back! We didn't cause any trouble today, and Chef Wang even rewarded me with a piece of osmanthus cake!"
Before he could finish speaking, Mo Ziyu burst in like a cannonball, with the white wolf following slowly behind him. A few blades of grass clung to its snow-white fur, and a red ribbon tied by Mo Ziyu hung around its neck, making it look rather comical.
As soon as Mo Ziyu entered the room, he saw Princess Youyi's red eyes. He was stunned for a moment, forgetting to eat the osmanthus cake in his hand, and ran to Youyi's side: "Mother, why are you crying? Did someone bully you? Tell Ziyu, Ziyu will protect you!"
As he spoke, he puffed out his little chest, looking fiercely protective of his offspring. The white wolf, ever observant, came over and nuzzled Youyi's hand with its head, letting out a low whimper, as if comforting her.
Looking at her son's serious expression and then at the docile white wolf beside her, Youyi couldn't help but burst into laughter through her tears.
She reached out and ruffled Mo Ziyu's hair, took the osmanthus cake from his hand, and took a bite: "Silly child, Mother is fine, I just got some sand in my eye."
Mo Ziyu frowned and leaned closer to look into her eyes: "Really? Then I'll help Mother blow on it."
As he spoke, he pouted and carefully blew a breath into Youyi's eyes.
The warm breath brushed against her cheek, and Youyi felt a wave of tenderness wash over her. All the grievances that had been building up for so long seemed to vanish in that instant.
Lin Yiwan looked at the scene before her, a relieved smile spreading across her face. She thought that Youyi's return to Beijing this time might really be a good omen.
